Track effects for tanks.

Just thought i'd throw this out there.
You know how when a tank moves, the tracks collect dirt...carry it up and over the top of the tracks and then it spills out on the front of the track?
We dont currently have that in the mod, and as i know you guys like to strive for graphical performance as well as gameplay. So there you go, voila one suggestion.

Well, it IS a suggestion, but I dont really think it's super significant... If they add that and it effects graphical performance, Im going to go on a huge protest about the Grass disapearing past like.. 10m

Okay, yeah, its just a suggestion, so if it does effect graphic performance then dont do it.
To elaborate, i have checked a few vids, and it seems this effect doesnt happen on Hard sand, dry grass, or concrete. But it defenitly happens on snow, sludge, dense sand like sand dunes and when a tank speeds off a mound. basically it happens when the threads peel-out(or spin-out) and have only partial grip.
As for a Vid, the best i can do is this corny T90 vid, but it shows how the snow gets caught in the tracks and poops out the front.
YouTube - T-90 It's really hard to be the best
And heres an M1 Abram tank vid which shows them at different speeds on different surfaces including water and dusty roads. we allready have a good dust trail, so it will suffice, but if you guys wanna go the extra mile, heres some footage. The second one is good for seeing the driver's actual view, which is the first time i have actually seen it. (the gun is lower and comes up from the bottom right corner instead of hanging down from the top right which is the current status in PR and battlefield 2.) and its mounted on the gun so when the gun turns, the cam turns with it.

Yeah this would be cool. Another thing we need is a more detailed effect for the choppers that hover close to the ground. IE we have BF2s low end dust effects and they are fine for at a distance but up close when a chopper first lands there is a big wall of sand, or dust/water that is put up by the spin of the rotor blades. Another thing is to make jeeps have correct sounds for spining tires on dirt. And for when we hit the breaks or slide on a paved road.
This small stuff makes a game more realistic and show more the power of these vehicles. Another idea is to make it so if you stand up when runing to the chopper you get a small bit of blurr ala BF2 style. This would mean you have to crouch and would make transport chopper protection a major idea for extraction. Right now we run right to the chopper and jump into with our heads held high.
In real life you keep your head down to make sure you don't get blinded by the dust and sand kicked up by the chopper as well as the rotors don't chop your head off.

Those are really cool ideas IMO. Simply bind a sound bite to the deccelerate key for jeep spinouts and skids. And the suppression overlay effect would do the trick when mounting a chopper. To avoid such an effect you could simply crouch, i would find that an entriguing development for vehicle mounting dynamics. With regards to the chopper hover stuff, i think that would be one of the things that would hinder performance, i know realistly the dust clowd should be 20 times bigger and thicker,(well on sand anyway) but this morning, i was hovering on the water with the apache and i did indeed see water spray effects. No windscreen droplets mind you, and that would be a nice effect too.
(yea when we were trining for mounting choppers, we were told that the rotors of our specific transport chopper come down to about 5 feet off the ground when they are on a slow spin.)

hey how about vehichles actually leaving tracks in the dirt and sand so enemies can track you. tracks disapear after 5 minutes and in cirtain areas(to simulate wind/water eroding the tracks) 2 minutes

There's a video of it on the Intro to BF1942. Where it all started...

Yeah I remember the Tiger tank rolled over a wooden tellaphone poll and kicked up all kinds of dust and dirt as it's treads regripped the ground. It would make tanks more real, as well as mean that infantry should see them comeing more easly.
Another thing is that when a tank, or jeep is slideing or hits the greaks you should hear the treads on the tank grip the dirt as the driver, as well as the men outside should see the tank slide just a tad to a hault, then when the tank hits the gass it should spin the treads and kick up some major dust.
Also I don't know if BF2 can do it but the wavy effect you see in COD4 from the tanks engine is vary realistic, and if we could do it for close up things it would mean again that we have a vary real looking world we bring the player into.
They also in COD4 use a wave like effect for muzzle flashes, and IMHO it would add so much to stand a few feet from an A10, or F16 and as the engine powers up the heat wave would be visable to the player as it lifts off and out of sight.
IMHO it should only happen with in at least 10 feet for the best performance on low end PCs, and only happen in the high end settings with 8X AA turned on.

Problem is I spoke to a tank driver these days and he told me, that he would not even notice it if he took down fences or small trees, so I doubt you would hear the tank grip the dirt.
