Apache HUD sensitivity

This is more of a question than anything so dont flare me over this.

After flying a couple of rounds with my squad in the apache, as the pilot, i found it very hard to keep the chopper stable at high altitudes. I know it tough to keep it perfectly still but it shouldnt be that hard to keep it relatively still. I think its mainly due to the HUD (i know that the devs have been warned of this issue and they will most likely fix the HUD color so u can see against the sky). But since i have not seen a HUD since the latest patches i was wondering how sensitive it is.

What i mean is that to figure out how the aircraft is positioned in relation to the ground (without looking at the map) the HUD shows how level you are to the ground right? Well is the current setting sensitive enough? Im not sure how to phrase this well, but if the HUD was a tad bit more sensitive to a pitch, it would be easier for the pilot to controll the craft, i would know how pitched i am and i can correct to stay still.

Then again, i dont know how it is right now to be honest since i cant see the HUD at all, so this is just a general question for now (if the settings on the HUD are sensitive enough for pilot to keep the aircraft still)

Also, has anybody noticed how weird the apache reacts if u pull back n the joystick form a hovering standpoint?? It starts turning by itself, that doesnt happen IRL does it?

All choppers do it, and yes, it sucks.

You have a low amount of responces right now and i'll tell you why. The Devs are either sorting this issue out, or changing it to a way they want it, or they are sick to death of answering people on issues like this.

I can give some advice as i am a gunship junkie but its late and i want to go to bed so i'll be brief.

The Artificial horizon is accurate and does represent the horizon. but the gunship tilts faward exponentially. that means, once you dont drag your mouse/stick backward it will nose down, and the nose drop will speed up as it goes down. so you need to keep the crosshairs about 5 milimeters above the HL and watch your speed to engage and maintain a hover. once your speed dropps to "0" a circle will pop up on the HMI which usually represents the ground below the chopper moving at a slow speed. basically, it takes lots of practice to level the chopper and keep it still whilst using the circle to make small adjustments and counteract drift.

Suggestion: Go into control options and slightly lower your mouse sencitivity. (I prefare using a mouse as the rudder/roll functions on any other input devices i have are irritating.) NOTE: lowering sensitivity means it will take a lot more slow-mouse-drag to roll the chopper which is important for flying low, which is the way the gunship should be flown.

Hope this advice helped.

Can't you adjust your HUD contrast in your settings??

??? This is about sensitivity, lol. Anyway, I found that the Apache hovers perfectly if you keep the horizon about 1cm above the center.

last night i managed to keep it relatively hovered and still, but ehh... its bullocks i tell u. Its an innacurate HUD if i have to keep it above the horizontal line to keep it steady... At least on Lock On when i look at my controlls i can still gather on whats going on to my aircraft by the gadgets there, lol. I know i know this is BF engine, i dont expect much.. but im also guessign that the HUD is hardcoded right? No way to make it different than it is? You know what, forget it. Once the devs change the HUD color il deal with it then, thats prolly the most important thing they have to fix on the choppers, and i know they are already on it if not done already.

By the way, thanx for telling me what that circle means, i still dont really get it, but i have an idea what youre saying.

My advise is to use the CTRL key to block mouse input when in a hovering position and then release it too correct if its moving. This way you can look around and correct it easily.

Also look at the ground if you have the feeling you are moving to much.

i do that already thanx though.

At high altitudes, u cant see the ground as pilot, lol, u have suc a limited view... and u cant see the hud, lol, i just use the map instead.

just use a variable throttle control and when you reach you desired altitude set the engine power to 26%(as far as i remember) stabilize it and then you can go have a cup of tea.

^ Yea but joysticks are hard to fly choppers with.

Are u kidding???

Joysticks are kickass for planes and choppers. I whoop butt with em. As Eurofighter i dont even use missiles anymore, i just sneak up behind the J10 and gun them down patiently.

The irritating thing about the chopper joystick is that while i tend to focus my attention to the map for any foreward or backward movement, i start to trend sideways, its a ****** to keep it still without the HUD to help me, but like i said before, all that will hopefully change when the new release is out.

Go DEVs, wohoo!

16% actually, hovers like a charm. Got up, got myself some food, came back in time to hear my gunner say "ok, we're done here"
