indicator in this clip...(what shows which direction bullet comes,at start, that red mark)
YouTube - Project Reality 0.7 assault on mestia RPG-7.
is it realismbased or should it be removed?
im not sure, when im running in forest and someone shoot me that i know which direction the bullets are coming.
i found a little conversation about this and there was:
"But I like the red flash *because* it shows where you got hit from. In real life, if you get hit in the back, you know you got hit in the back. You feel the transfer of inertia from the bullet to you, and therefore you have an awfully good sense of just where the bullet came from. I think the red flash is the only way to model this in-game"
it depends what hit me.
if someone shoot with rifle in my back,i dont have sense of anything.
just pain and terror.
and in this clip:
YouTube - Project Reality v0.75 of *=SAS=*
at time 1.18,grenade explodes very near of the player and indicator flashes.
and then this player takes grenade very fast from his pocket, throwns it to the direction, then he takes his medic kit(fast)and then his rifle.

speaks for itself really. you get shot in your left arm, the indicator comes up on the top left of the screan and you know what direction the fire is coming from. you try being shot, i bet you wouldnt take long to figure out where the shot came from.
But if it was taken out and it was an all around red, like the "Yelp" with the bleed effect, it might be just as good, and terrorise people into taking cover lightning fast.

Actually, I doubt that most people getting shot at are aware of the exact direction they got shot other than the fact that they know that the shooters are in front of them, behind them etc already.
Thinking about it, removing this might be a good idea. Would help slow down gameplay a little more - no more getting shot and spinning to face the guy that just shot you; you'd have to take cover and assess the situation a little better.

what would be the first reaction in situation where you are be attacked with rifle or grenade?
if i now start running in forest and someone will shot me in arm,i propably fell down, scream, check my wound, scream again, check wound again.scream for medic and then...where that bullet come from?,and scream again...i never been shotted but i think it would be very painfull, even the bullet was hitted my arm.
i think, that pain, fear, shock will dizzy my thinking and im not sure which direction the bullet came.
maybe one solution in this indicator thing is some delay...
(getting hit, then comes the horror, scream, checking the wound, then indicator?)
in this clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ls6ZDrG ... re=related
at time 00.58,the player is running in a forest.then enemy is firing from right and indicator flashes red.
player turns towards the enemy and start firing...i dont know you guys but that is not right.
it`s my opinion of course...

Humm, an intresting idea indeed. Removing the "hit damage indicator" would be a drastic change... Quite possibly for the better.
Certainly would change the pace of the game and force players to absorb thier surroundings while also increasing the importance and value of snipers. This would surely give snipers the "shot-out-of-nowhere" edge including the psychological and morale impact value.
I must say though, to remove the "hit damage indicator" would be a very new and a rather tough addition to the Project Reality experience. It's up there in difficulty level right next to the loss of the Squad Leader and APC spawn points previously seen in the v0.6 patch awhile ago.
However, at the same time if the player is paying attention to what he's doing and listening he can hear where the shots are coming from. For players acting upon brutal gun fights it'll be obvious where the shots are coming. But instead if a player is more of the stealthy type, taking shots when it's necessary at the right moment it'll truely start to add the guess work into what's going on around you. Being sly and clever may be your new best friend or worst enemy.
This new idea is clearly going to need some warming up to. But it truely does pose a significant twist to the already demanding aspect of Project Reality.
Personally I support the removal of the "hit damage indicator". This should prove to make things tougher than before and I welcome a new challenge in gameplay. Even if it empowers me as leverage to use over others, or... Even used against myself.

Hmm, I thought when you got shot, the whole screen had bloody red edges, not pinpoint the area where you got shot. That was vanilla, I thought PR changed that. I guess not.
I vote for the removal of it. Make the all edges red, or remove it?

You can tell where it came from, if the shot isn't too close or isn't too far, by the noise of the gunshot. In my mind, that should suffice.

Removing this indicator may be a step towards realism but IRL, (I've never been shot but I'll assume) you'd be able to tell with more than your ears where you've been hit from.
If the indicator was only accurate enough to tell you if you've been hit from the left, right, front or back, it may work. At the moment, you can get an accurate bearing from your hit indicator and fire well placed shots, even if you are suppressed or havn't seen the enemy.

is the indicator still in game?
i was playing yesterday operation ghost train.
i sneak over the river to the near on the point at bridge.
me and some dudes,we managed to take control but then the british came with vehicle and killed everyone in near on that bunker.
but i was still in a bushes.
i get prone positin and sneaked closer to throw a grenade in their heads.
there were maybe 3-4 enemy soldiers.
i throw grenade from my hiding place...and throwed second grenade.
bang....bang...maybe 1 killed.but then.
man in the vehicle gun just turn to my position and killed me.
where was the horror and dizzyness when they buddys legs and arms blowed off?
do indicator show where to grenade was coming?
my opinion is when you are with two of your teammember and someone throw 2 grenades in your legs and one of your squadmembers head is off you are midlle of chaos and horror.
you cant just turn around to the position where the enemy is and make the headshot.
maybe they are some robots that they dont feel horror and pressure.
i looked some o.8 videos from youtube and i think that it have been removed.
but how they allways know where is my hiding place?
maybe my hiding place suck

Even with the red direction indicator I have shot people at med to long range distances and they take cover next to vehicles on the same side that I am with their backs to me.
I have never been shot IRL so I do not know how 'realistic' the red indicator is... if a person who gets shot can feel what direction the round came from. It seems intuitive that if you get shot in the chest you would know it immediately, but maybe it is not that simple.
Instead of removing the indicator all together, what about reducing its accuracy. Limit it to just 4 quadrants (front, left side, right side, back).
