It needs an animation i think, and would be good for gameplay too:
Would people thinks twice just crawling in the battle becouse they cant fire that quik and must get their weapon pointing forward again, even prone spamming could be eliminated right?

Right now, you crawl with youre gun pointing forward and ready to shoot.
But that aint realistic? how can you crawl with youre gun ready to shoot? they only have 2 arms, and you cant crawl with youre weapon holding like that.

Maybe i could have an animation where when you crawl or go prone, youre gun will go like the weapon animation like FH2 if you run but more slowly.

Here, watch this one and you see you first settup youre weapon when going prone before youre fire
*dont mind the reloading, its not about that*
Maybe give the animation 2 seconds before you are ready to fire, could eliminate prone spamming

this kind of crawling with gun should be a good thing for gameplay.

love that last one arjan, they are all fresh recruit but great ref video to show how crawling with a weapon is not as easy as it seems ;)

yes prone spam/prone crawling is a huge issue that needs dealing with, but it requires a very talented animator and LOTS of time, but would be great to have this fixed at some point..

This problem has been going on for a couple of months right? thats a pity, everyone allready has their hands full atm.Does it require that you have to scrap the allready existing one and make one from scratch?

Im afraid this isnt possible to do, Atleast not in a first person perspective.
Every weapon has a bunch of animations that are split into two categories, one being 1p (first person) the other one being 3p (third person). All animations that are in 1p is what you see of yourself, your arms and your gun. the 3p is what everyone else sees, Complete body and gun.
Heres where the suggestion get hardcoded, The 1p dosent have nearly as many animations as the 3p does, for example the walk animation that is in 1p is used for crouch and prone too, But in 3p theres one animation for crouching and one for proning. This means that you can animate those stuff that you suggested in a 3p view, but not in 1p, So were stuck with what we got.

I really wish there was as many animations in 1p as there and in 3p, For example theres a 3p "from stand to prone" if there had been the same thing for 1p I could eaily fix prone diving, But theres not So I cant. :|

That's pity.

Might it be possible just to block the weapon? Like the DEVs did with the M82/M95 when you were standing. Just now only with crawling? Or is there no difference between crawling and laying still in the eyes of BF2?

Why not just put a 2 second delay when you go prone? Who cares how stupid it would look the gameplay itself is IMO more important. The delay on jeeps also looks stupid when you switch to .50 cal yet nobody complains.

Uhh it's also a bit unrealistic to crawl with sights up. Hard to keep steady, etc. And it might be a contribution towards the anti-prone spamming.

the only animations needed imo are the 3rd person animations.

in 1p, all that would need to be done is have the rifle disappear using the same animation as switching to another item (except no item is taken out)

when the player stops crawling, the rifle is "taken" out using the vbf2 animation for switching to the rifle

I think you are wrong here. Yes there are much less animations in 1p, but it doesn't mean you can't add them. Afaik you can add an animation trigger to the 1p system, and use it just like 3p.

But the problem here is that the player will still be able to shoot his weapon even when crawling, and the bullets will still go in the center of the screen.

How about an incredible amount of deviation that lasts for 1 second if you move wasd keys in prone? 1 second as an example...

You right, I have never been so happy to be wrong, You my friend might just solved prone diving/ insta proning.

Well you still can't affect your bullets with animations. So unless you want to add a to_prone animation to the camera bone, I don't see how it can be solved with animations.

Hmm, Well the idea was to swing the camera back and forth like crazy to make aiming impossible, Problem is that the "to prone" animation is aborted when bringing up the scope making it useless again, Damn it.
