man, this sucks, like an hour ago my pc got hit hard with a **** load of viruses and spyware, what sucks the most is ALL my work, sounds, alex's effect help, everything, is now gone, so i had to reinstall windows and now i have to do everything all over again. *sigh* This should be fun...

oh, ouch... Had problems with viruses too lately, almost thought i'd have to lose my data too, but it wasnt as bad as i thought... Well, that doesnt help you i guess... Just remember to save your work on a disk or something from time to time... But i guess you're doing that anyway now, at least i would.

My advice? Look up less porn. [well, I cant say anything....... but get more antispyware and adware stuff, antivir, Kerio PFW, and AVG are all free]


But seriously, that sucks Dont you have an external harddrive? They're incredibly cheap these days and are more or less a must have for anyone dealing with sensitive,time-consuming works-in-progress. I think I know of a 500Gig seagate[sp?] for like 90 bucks. THats a decent deal as far as I know[?] for 500 Gigs I mean

Im sure there are better deals, but yeah... get an external and back-up back-up back-up!

yeah, i dont have a external hd, but when i get a job im gonna start saving for a gnarly computer. but, the way i got the viruses made no sense whatsoever. i was talking to some "chick" on im and i clicked her picture and BAM! hell on earth. god dude, i was soooo pissed about it i wanted to cuss her out soo much. but now everything is back to normal

Hmm, I found things talking about older versions and a new update, but theres also a new free update... you sure? There were a lot of threads I found on this but they all seemed to be old and mistaken about the Nov 15 from like, last year... :shrug:

I just checked my start menu, it says AVG Free 8.0

I only trust my Kaspersky now that several viruses went through free AVPs and cheap ones.

Just some advice I give friends, here how I run my box. This has saved my life many time times.

Drive 1 : System Drive
- Option 1 : install only your programs, do not save any work there
- Option 2 : Install nothing but operating systems (system, java, anything that NEEDS to go there)

The next two can be one or two drives :
Drive 2 (RAID or Not RAID)
Install all your programs no saved work

Drive 2 or 3 (RAID or Not RAID)
Work saves only, NO PROGRAMS

I always use Spybot and a AntiVirus program.

And never give up porn!

Sucks to lose a computer to a virus. Glad things worked out better than most hair-pulling experiences I've had with The Sims downloadable content.

If you want a free AV try Avast!.


But basically, all you need to protect yourself from viruses is a firewall (I recommend Comodo - free and good), secure browser (Firefox + NoScript addon do the job well enough ) and mainly a brain
