They are still in wide service with a number of nations.
If PR do get to use them the first place I would have thought they would appear would be in urban Russia vs Malitia maps, as during operations in Grozny Russian tanks were often acompanied by SPAAGs as they could enguange targets at higher elevation, and so were very useful in taking out Chechen rebels firing RPGs from rooftops and high windows.

Hmmm i think this would be a beter combination for the mec, but that would mean more AA vs Infantry which is bad, so we might get that for russians, as i say F*** rockets , bullets are the real deal

well if you want it as non anti infantry you could do what DC did and limit the firing angle to 5-90 degrees of angle but then we are sacrificing realism for gameplay again.

I don't get what people have against using AAA against infantry. Its a perfectly realistic tactic, and there is even a variant of the Shilka (ZSU-23-4M2) that is designed specifically with this in mid, with radar equipment stripped off, night sights added and an expanded ammunition compartment.
People need to stop their howlin' and think of a way to deal with it rather than moaning. AAVs have rubbish armour, only one pair of eyes looking for targets and no smoke launchers. Just because the MEC/PLA actually have something superior to its direct US equivelant currently in game...

Ah, someone who uses the Federation of American Scientists website (F.A.S.). They have some rather good data there as I even use it myself sometimes. Although thier new setup is abit more difficult to navigate than previously seen last year. Chock full of various weapons and armament from other countries and a majority of it consists of U.S. equipment.
Anyways, I'm glad you brought this up Dragosh. I'm a veteran from playing Desert Combat, basically that's the Battlefield 1942 modification for the Gulf War (U.S. and Iraqi conflict.) back in 1990 and they had the ZSU-23 Shilka presented in that modification.
However, the only way I can actually see the ZSU-23 Shilka to be implemented and utlized in Project Reality is simply by giving it to the Georgian Militia. Of course we're aware that it does not have missles... So chances are if it does become implemented it would have to be on a map where the British forces strictly have helicopters. Of course, that would mean that the Lynx would have to get finished and the Merlin lag delt with (Which is it to the best of my knowledge.).
So yeah, basically a British version of the "Qwai River" map where the Militia and the British go at it. The developement of an engagement along those guidelines would certainly be a rather nice addition to Project Reality.

Modern variants can actually carry SA-18 launchers, you know.

That is a nice model, and I agree that AAV engaging Infantry targets is realistic. The only thing that bothers me sometimes is the inbalance between the ability of the MEC AAV to engage and take out an Abrams tank as compared to the Bradly's almost inexistent ability to take out a T-90. Not too sure on the realism factor, but I dont think AAV's in real life have the penetrating power to take out a Abrams in a short burst of fire.

yeah. When the Russians moved into grozny, chechnyan tank hunter teams fired on them from roofs and basements – out of the elevation range of main guns of tanks. The Russians countered by bringing up their self propelled anti air guns to engage the infantry.

Two rapid firing autocannons vs one much slower firing?

You’re right in saying that a AA vehicle is unlikely to destroy a mbt:
Here even multiple hits to the rear could only bring about a mobility kill – plus the AA guns would be loaded with HE rather than armor piercing rounds.

All is has to do is mess up the tracks and optics. The crew will probably survive coz i seriously doubt that it can penetrate the armour.

Hmm, the gun is supposed to be radar aimed. Honestly all the guns are good for is hitting infantry. The hitboxes on air vehicles are just so off that even if you "hit" it doesn't register. Combine the fact that its armor doesn't exceed 9.4 milimeters, no one would use this thing for long. Even a .50 cal could probably kill it if the Zeus doesn't see it. Maybe putting SA-18's on it would make it a reasonable solution, but I think that this would be a better vehicle for militia than Russia/MEC as I am sure they'd be using the more advanced SA-19.

the tunkasta and linbacker are complerte rubbish against skilled pilots, you can kill thm with the cannon on the F-16 or Mig-29. on kashan i use them for blowing up destructable buildings, and getting noob pilots or choppers.
