this topic seems to be the story of ma life.. lol . but read it its gon take u just 10 mins.
Problem:
If u wanna land an aircraft u need to know at least how far the airport is and were it is...if u wunna make a strafting run with a chopper or aircraft u gota know the exact position of the target ... and many other things i don remember right now. Solution? A marker! yeah but only squad leaders can set markers.. so does every one have to make squads just to be able to land or make special objectives ? Couldnt u guys make a very simple thing, give a project reality player the abillity to set a marker his own, that woud only appear in his monitor?
Every day i play pr, there is always a guy on air maps playin the transport guy, givin fast transport to land units via helicopter... yeah cool its like this:
a squad request chopper, pilot makes ready, they enter the chopper, pilot asks "were to?" the "passengers" says for example "Drop us at D5" all cool til now.. then problems start as the pilot needs to be lookin at the map all the time to watch were to drop the guys at corect location... another reason why many pilots crash... watchin maps in order to do right job... a marker woud help much as pilot before takin off woud set marker and head directly to the LZ.
Thanks for the creators of this mod. i luv it!

I see what you're trying yet completely unsure how to say: you want a graphical way for aircraft passengers to designate their LZ.

I know this is pretty much hardcoded because Extraction/Insertion points don't appear on the 3D map, which is essential for flying. To compensate, any player, even one who isn't the SL, should be able to set a personal point on the map which also has a 3D map icon. This could not only guide pilots (in other words, allow them to 'set a course') to his passengers' target LZ, but aid tank drivers as well.

I would love to have this just from an infantry standpoint. I don't know how many times I've wanted to be able to set a point for myself while running through hills and trees and what not.

Sorry, but it was so poorly written that I never even noticed that until you made it clear.

Too much 1337 slang makes my eyes hurt. :|

The rare occasions when I'm doing transports, I use the move markers to indicate the destination. Transport squads don't have to be greater than one pilot.

No.. but everyone has to be in a squad to request a pilot kit.

A few tips for TH3pilot. After you've created/joined a squad to become a pilot for, stay in it. I would usually recommend the Squad Leader be the pilot as he should be deciding where the aircraft needs to be and will be recieving orders from the commander. How else would you get these "special objectives" completed? This also means that a passenger can jump into your squad to ask for a pickup/dropoff over VOIP. Not to mention the important communication between you and your gunner or spotter on the ground etc...

So basically, if you're going to pilot an aircraft, you have enough reasons to be your own Squad Leader. Then you get to set markers for yourself for attack positions and such. 8-)

As for landing, you should keep your map up on screen during your initial approach. A marker might help you direct towards the runway but can't tell you what angle it's at. When you can see the runway from the cockpit, you don't need a marker or your map.

Try to use your map like a soldier would in reality. I know its hard with the magic marker on it showing you exactly where you are and where you're looking but it's easier than RL. wait for the topographical maps to be implemented...

Also, the less markers and such on the 3D hud, the better. I like how 0.7 has an almost empty hud, much more realistic. No more radar, no more massive orange universal messages, no more markers on the 3Dhud (for Inf) please
