which m 16 reload is corect??

the one in cod4 where you just eject the old mag and put another one in..or the one in bf2/ pr..where you eject the old one..put a new one in and pull the charging handle back?

both , PR is a dry reload in which what ever time u load it, the game treats the weapon as empty and as you put the new mag in, a **** is needed to get a round out of the mag and into the chamber, on cod 4, its mostly a (i think they have both reloads ? cant remember) tactical reload in which you reload before all rounds are fired, there is still a round in the chamber so a **** is not needed as the recoil from the round in the chamber will chamber the next round.

i think thats right, brains buggered, been doing maths all day

both are. If you fire the weapon until it is empty, after you replace the magazine, you have to release the bolt, which can be done by either pressing the bolt release, or pulling the charging handle.

If the weapon was not empty when you reload, all you have to do is replace the magazine.

As has been said, both are correct...and wrong. In COD4, you just replace the magazine with a fresh one and magically continue firing, even when the weapon is dry (IIRC). In BF2, you pull the charging handle back, ejecting a round unnecessarily if there is one in the chamber already. If the weapon was dry, you could simply have pressed the bolt release and it would be much faster.

I wouldn´t say BF2 is that correct tbh, although I can´t be sure, but why does he hit the knob on the right side (used for unjamming I think)?

Well even whit an empty chamber you dont have to pull the charging handle, there a button on the side of the gun that just release the chamber when you put you're new mag. My english suck but ill try to explain my self, when you fire you're last round, the gun lock the breech back then you put youre new magazine and press the release button then restart firing

Not true, When its Dry it does pull the charging handle.. and when its NOT dry it doesnt, the CoD4 reloads are correct..

No, as i said above, the gun automaticly hold the breech back ( when you shoot the last round of you're gun the piston still work! ) then you put you're new magazine, press the release button and fire again.

For that you need to pull the handle before and block it there. So its basicaly the same move as the normal drill but in reverse !

I think everyone is misunderstanding eachother right now...

As everyone said, both are correct. BF2 one is needlessly complicated, COD4 one is - if there are two different animations - correct.

I've been wondering that too. Speaking of the reload animations, how authentic are the reloads in BF2?

3 different reloading drills on most guns (afaik):

1- tactical reload: you have not shot all your rounds from the mag, but you want a fresh mag so you dont run out in a crucial moment (this is the most common reloading behaviour for players in PR). Take the old mag out, put the new mag in. Thats it. There is no need to do anything further cause there is still a round in the chamber from the old mag. This is actually a way to give yourself an extra round (31 rounds) cause of the round in the chamber. However most combat infantry dont load their mags to full, they load to 28 or so, so there is no chance of the mag fucking up.

2- dry reload: your weapon has expended all rounds in the current mag. The bolt will lock into the "back" position and your unable to pull the trigger. You need to take the old mag out, put the new mag in, press the bolt catch to bring the bolt back into the forward position, which simultaneously chambers a round. If your rifle has a forward assist, you press that to make sure the round is seated properly in the chamber. This is the 2nd most common reload in PR.

3- loading: you are putting a mag in the weapon which DOES not currently have a round in the chamber. You need to put the fresh mag in, **** the weapon, and press any forward assist you might have. This is done when you are entering combat readyness or if your weapon has a stoppage or as part of the drill in a weapon jam. This would very rarely occur in PR, maybe only when you respawn this would be used? Since there are no jams or stoppages.

Unfortunately BF2 can only have 1 reload animation per weapon, it does not take into account all these different states... prety sure COD4 reload animations are the same way/

it would be nice to have other reloads in BF2 but I'll take whatever gets another round in the chamber.

Forward assist. Used to ensure the bolt is fully forwards after reloading.

Under most circumstances, pulling the charging handle back and releasing it fully will do it properly, but somtimes it doesn't or the person pushes the handle forwards and it doesn't lock properly. With an SA80 you give the handle a tap, with most M4/16 rifles (early ones didn't have the assist), you hit the button.

Really, you should have 31 rounds available (30 in mag, 1 in chamber) after a tactical reload, but it seems the BF2 engine (and despite the animation, CoD4 don't either) don't take that into account.
I've been wondering that too. Speaking of the reload animations, how authentic are the reloads in BF2?
I'd say the M4/16 isn't too bad, but the SA80 one is dire. Try to reload any SA80 like that (except the cadet L98...) and you'll have a boot up your arse before you can bring the sight to your eye.

It's been referred to many times, the devs know but without more animators, they can't fix it; you should insert the magazine with your left hand (not lifting the rifle into the air), then tilt the weapon to its left side and **** it again with your left hand-the right hand never leaves the grip.

No, in BF2 he doesn´t touch the forward assist. ;) The forawrd assist is on the left side.

The forward assist is a button next to the charging handle, extending from the right side of the weapon. The button on the left above the magazine well is a bolt release.

Just fired up the game, he definitely ***** the rifle then hits the forward assist. I imagine hitting it would be good drills, just to make sure it's ready to fire.

The forward assist is the bit below the charging handle, rear of the ejection port.
(EDIT: Clearer image)

The button up and left of the trigger there is the bolt release.

and yeah the only SA80 variant you **** with right hand is Cadet GP which has a large piece of shit(or cocking handle as more technically referred to) strapped to it.

We should have a mod edit the M4 image into bob's sig :D

That much **** bolted on just makes it look ugly...and it must really screw up the balance of the weapon.
