WSO's

I really would like to see some realistic WSO(Weapons System Operators) in PR. On planes like the F15-E or F/A-18 this could be a very interesting feature. The 2nd position would have a a view like that wich they would see if they were looking through the little screen in the real plane. Thre interesting part would be the tools they get. Because of the very high view distance in BF2 I think that this could be a very usefull postion if it were used properly. Primary fire would drop a guided bomb, while secondary fire would paint that bombs target. OR if the plane has dumb bombs, the WSO might get 2 types of bombs. Now the pilot and WSO would share all kills gotten in the aircraft as it is a team effort. The WSO gets "smart" bombs to drop, but can only use them if the pilot flies straight. THe WSO would also get the radar, and would have to inform thne pilot of air targets, hence holding up his end of the bargain. So they would both have to help eachother to be succesfull. Thats my iea, please discuss.

The F-15E in game screenshots for BF2 seems to have a second player in it; not sure who controls the laser-guided bombs, though.

As far as the F/A-18 goes, the only two-seat version of the F/A-18 currently used as a strike platform and not as a trainer (there are some recon aircraft, also) is the F/A-18D. In this capacity, it is used only by the US Marine Corps.

Well in BF2 its foccus is marines, so if PR keeps the BF2 theme then the FA-18D would work out. ALSO since it appears your doing the british(duuuuur land rover and brit soldier model). The tornado is a 2 seater attack plane as well, so if that gets in the WSO could have a job in that as well. Also, giving the pilot the power to designate bombs wouldnt take away the infantries ability to do so, wed still have guys on the ground that could do it. I just hope the BF2 team doesn't fuck up guided bombs and make them all use the same "frequency". IE hellfires should only follow the path designated by the helos, and guided bombs shouldnt follow the path that hellfires follow.

This is sort of on topic, but does BF2 have the capability to do laser painting? I've just started checking out some of it's new toys and abilities. If not, that would be a cool thing to have. A spec ops (maybe sniper kit) that could get behind enemy lines and "paint" a target for the figher jets (or WSo as you suggest)

Yes sir, the BF2 engine does indeed have laser painting as one of its 'gadgets' if you will. It basically removes artillery from maps and replaces it with Infantry painting targets for airstrikes. I would link you a video clip but unfortunetly I can't find it anymore....

Laser painting! That is sweet! That will actually make a sniper/scout kit somewhat useful.

Thanks for the info. Is there a site that has all/most of these clips and screenies for BF2?

Well I think there should be special FAC(forward air controller) pickup kits. Snipers should be used to report enemy position and for their marksman skills, I dont think marksmen carry laser designators as standard gear IRL.

So is a laser painter a FAC thing only? Or does each military division have one at it's disposal (pardon the lack of military terminology)?

Either way it's going to be a way to promote team play in a game. Hopefully it will be used more than the aty system now in place.

I believe somewhere a BF2 dev stated that instead of the boring old Arty system(I liked it.. :( .. ) that now yous guide a missle down a laser. Dont trust me on this one though cause I heard it a long time ago.

Great idea, I think it would be very fun, and would add to the teamwork element of the game greatly.
