I was playing last night on Tcombat server and it was the first time I have ever really seen people deploying mines. Well with that I had kinda of a realization, would it be more realistic if mines just damaged armor rather than destroyed them? I'm not saying make it so they can just dust off the black marks but damage the tracks and possibly the turret, obviously they would still destroy trucks and other light vehicles. My reasoning for this is that a mine at its most is a tactical weapon, we use it to deny access to certain objectives, lower morale and to overall harass the other team. I think it would do its job better if it disabled the armor rather than destroy it, deny it to the enemy as long as possible. Notice if this is already implemented feel free to lock or delete suggestion. Also I never experimented in a Main Battle Tank, just APC's and Schimtar's.

I don't know if they could do this, but it would be cool if the tanks were just immobilized by the landmines (like the track gets broken), so the guns still work, but the tank cannot move.

The tanks can already get damaged this way all you would have to do is lower the damage of the land mine so it still kills light vehicles but severely damages armor.
That is about laying them in a realistic matter, this involves the actual detonation not tactics or battlefield strategies on how to make a minefield.

To compromise, these landmines should be placed into the ground, much like the FH2 ones. This does two things: balances the lack of power with less visibility, and prevents the thing from rolling around.

I'm sure mines will be improved in all suggestions. But it will take time and job. They are pretty much untouched from vBF2. First off all those anti-tank mines are buried in the ground and they are not just placed on a road. So it's pretty much useless taking about mines at the moment.

Its never useless to provide a good suggestion just because of time, if that were false we would probably still be fighting in WW2. Also just cause the mines are untouched from vanilla, people still deploy them successfully. I don't think you are understanding my suggestion, or what we are really talking about here.

Sure I understand, I just see it in another perspective. Much has been talked about mines, but I found out there is not much priorety and interest into it yet, I don't know it might change. But then when it does it will be wider than the suggestions made.

I only introduced the idea of burying mines as a certain justification - a bonus, if you will - of the suggestion to reduce the damage of landmines. Even if it turns out that this is unrealistic, I'm sure that tossing a 50lb landmine on a hill and watching it roll away isn't.
Does anyone know how to code this themselves? If a non-Dev could figure this out and send it to a Dev in time for it to be tested for 0.8, there would no longer be any reason to kill the idea on the basis of priority.

Clark your suggestion was great balancing the visibility with damage, if you buried a land mine no one could see and it killed everything then it would be no fun and a lot of people would complain. So a hidden mine but doesn't completely destroy is a great addition to my suggestion.

This is a post I found from 2005-09
[R-DEV]Eddie Baker wrote:Engineer will be renamed to Combat Engineer and will have varying kits, like other class. Special Operations may not always be a demolitions man and Combat Engineer may not always be a mine-layer. Likewise, not every class / kit may be on every map, since different units/branches of service will be represented.
Some are saying this mines are not able to be buried because of limitations, and other say this mines can not be power tweaked. There is not many thread about mines and in those thread there are not much Dev info.

I see an AT-mine, seconds later I only see the top of it, you sure are right there. Can this be deployed on asphalt road?

I don't think their mines are actually burried, it seems like the thing you put on the ground is just the top of the mine, although you have the normal 1p model.
A guess.

Look carefully, the entire mine actually does go into the ground.
