[Map] Kakheti [scrapped]

Ok, this is my next map idea and some images. The idea is that US Military Intelligence discovered that Middle Eastern Insurgents were recieving parts for ICBMs from a Militia in Georgia. The Militia is basing it's exportation out of the Kakheti region of Georgia that borders Azerbaijan. First, a UN group with an escort of two HMMWVs was sent to neogiate with the Militia; however, the convoy was ambushed and destroyed. Now, US forces (Army if Rhino tells me that Army will have woodland variants of Styker and HMMWV, USMC if not) have been sent to the area. Intel is provided for all but one of the areas of importance, there is a Militia cache hidden in the woods somewhere. To help find the cache US forces have been provided with a helicopter. Unforunately, the Georgian rebels have Stinger missles left over from when the US government sponsered their rebellion against the Soviet Union.

Below is a magnified view of the minimap with some of the area cut out so you can see the main areas of interest better, don't mind the weird white-green pixels in the middle of the map, I'm guessing that's some overgrowth that is being weird to the minimap. I'll fix it when I make an official minimap. Each area of interest is given a number. Areas 2, 3, 4, 7 and 11 are capture points. And none are uncapturable.
Image

1. US Base, Helicopter Area (Will include MH6 Transport or Huey)
Image

2. US Base, Main Area (Will include APCs, HMMWVs and Supply Trucks)
Image

3. Militia Outpost with some objects and a ZPU-4
Image

4. View of Village, 1 (Village includes 1 ATV, 1 Truck and 1 Car)
Image

5. View of Village, 2
Image

6. View of Village from a nearby Militia Pillbox
Image

7. Militia Artillery and a nearby house
Image

8. A field of unexploded ordiance is somewhere in this area (Don't fret, the minefields all are just models, they don't hurt, but if someone knows how...)
Image

9. Ambushed UN Convoy, VIP SUV will be unusable (I'm guessing DEVs would prefer this)
Image

10. The entrance to the Militia Compound
Image

11. Militia Compound, overhead
Image

12. Militia Compound, View 1
Image

13. Militia Compound, View 2
Image

14. Militia Compound, Vehicle Depot Inside
Image

I'll not be providing images or any hints to where the hidden Militia Cache is, it won't even be on the minimap. The cache is four ammo caches hidden under camo netting. It's pretty hard to spot from the sky, but it can be done, and it won't move so this will only be special the first couple of times. The cache will need to be controlled before US forces can assault the Militia Compound.

The map will be for AAS and Militia gets 450 tickets while US gets 400.
Also, I've followed the PR guidelines for all the parts I've done so far.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Looking good for a start. But I think there are USMC units stationed in Georgia,or something (correct me if i'm wrong)...So maybe USMC would be a good choice for it..Dunno...

Some Abrams would be nice on this...And if it's USMC one Cobra maybe,or an armed Littlebird..And if it's Army an Apache,or Armed littlebird..,

:)

Sounds like a good start, nice back story.

My only thought is the map doesn't feel real, as in it looks very simplistic (and no offense). Try finding a cool area in google maps and *overlay it in the editor.

*I forget whats its called, I'll fix this post once I get home.

But then I have to redo everything...

And I did base it off some terrain in Kakheti, I coudln't get to good of a resolution image because apparently no one takes satellite photos of Georgia/Azerbaijan.

As for USMC in Georgia, I don't know, but I don't see anything in Georgia (US Army or USMC) according to globalsecurity - http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/centcom.htm

I think you mean the colourbig.tga. It doesnt have to be a satellite of georgia - look at reference pictures of it and then get a sat image from another part of the world, that has a similar enviroment/climate/terrain

I agree its a good story, but as code says the terrain is very simple - it looks like youve just run the platform tool straight over the middle. Also the forest is very angular on the edges.
If you want to use helis on it without lag, then you will have to seriously cut back on the tree density - ( from the pics, by about 90% ! )

Also the statics look very randomly placed ( not in a good way ) - get a load of reference pics - anything to to get a feel for how stuff is laid out - eg - for main base, google "army base"

Want to know a secret?

I did level straight down the middle, roads make me angry because they always have terrain sticking through them, I've used tutorial I can find and nothing totally solves the problem except good'ol level tool. Also, level makes for good ambush spots.

And I just can't use helicopters without really dense forest because then you have somewhere to hide, but I'm sure I can lower the density some more.

Edit - By the way coderedfox, I know what you're talking about and when I first discovered that Terragen could do that I immediately got Terragen (before and now I just use L3DT and BF_tpaint), but then I discovered you have to pay $100.00 (I like mapping, I have a job, but editing BF is a hobby, not a serious endevour) if you want to make maps bigger than 512x512 (which I always do). So, do you know any free programs that can do that?

Nice, how did you get all those trees in there with no lag? man...

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-modding-tutorials/21688-tutorial-image-colormaps.html

This tut shows you how to do the colourmap - in the last post I mention a program called stichmaps - You dont have to use it, but this program takes over google earth, splits the area into smaller tiles, zooms in and gets hi res pics, and then stiches them together - all in about 2 mins :D - this gives you a very high res colourmap.

looks like a good map for 16p or inf only w/ only light ground transports, no air assetts or armor imo

Thanks space, the example used is pretty weird, but yeah...

The only thing that bug me about this map, is the road. A road leading to the middle of nowhere like that feel very unrealistic. Adding a second road would make the map much more believable.

Sort out the issues that people have pointed out, then I've got dibs on it for the Russians. ;)

Sure, KP you can take it and do it yourself. Also, the forest does have an understory, I have pine bushes at about 10 density or something.

I've said nothing of Russia. It would work find, but I'm already working on a map for a community mod so 1 community mod work at a time is enough for me.
