50cals and whirley birds

So I'm just off from practicing a few things on Sp, AA launchers and fixed weapons mostly as I found my accuracy with both to be...lacking.
Anyways I was playing MEC vs USMC (the map with the carrier) and boosted the bots skill via botchanger. The round itself was quite fun, US pushed me back, took the docks and gas station before we flung them back.
It was at the docks it happened, fresh wave incoming, little birds strafing ahead and me fresh out of rockets. I dove on the back of a technical parked nearby in desperation, swung the 50cal round *Braaaap* and..boom the little bird folded like wet carboard.
Rinsed and repeated on the other incomings and I ended up chalking a nice tally right there until MEC win.
Now heres my question, is this a Sp thing or are whirley birds really so squishy vs 50cal fire, I've yet to see one taken down that way in Mp partly due to lack of time played and partly as most pilots are too damned good for me to get eyeball on.

So they are just as squishy to 50 cal fire in Mp then

As for leading the target..hell I'm new here but I learned to do that way back playing knights of the sky.

Hit detection.
The hit detection in Bf2 is utter ****, sometimes you have to aim BEHIND a moving target in order to hit it (Bf2 TV guided missiles).
But if you get a good burst on the LB, it should go down

I'd never accuse them of that trust me.

1st step was just finding out if they -were- that squishy...now I just have to work on hitting them..and living...

woh what is this botchanger thing? does it make the AI in single player PR smarter? cuz that would rock, the AI is pretty stupid.

this got me thinking, Its not a huge deal but as a minor like visual thing. or as a PR "eye candy" so to speak. is it possible for after a certain amount of hits around the tail area of the chopper that it spins around and whirls to the ground such as in black hawk down movie. I know if u get hit in the tail a certain amount of times u lose ability to USE it. but wudnt it be cool to be a soldier sitting in the chopper and u get hit one more time on the tail nd u see the chopper swishing down to the street in al basrah or something? idk might be cool.

That would be a no.
While we're on the topic of .50s and helos though, how realistic is it for a .50 cal to take down a merlin/blackhawk, especially when shooting any area of the helicopter suffices to kill it.

it doesnt seem too far fetched to me, i mean 50 cal is pretty big bullet, and blackhawks arent exactly flying fortresses, most helicopters in general are pretty thin skinned {maybe not the apache} think of it this way, our P-51 mustangs from WW2 used 50 cal m2 machine guns to shoot down german/japanese fighters, i cant imagine a blackhawk has much better armor protection than a german messerschmidt.

Yeah, I wouldn't argue that there would be a fair bit of armor penetration from .50s but the problem is someone can shoot anywhere on the helicopter to make it explode. It gives them a huge easy target, for example if the helo hovers/lands it makes it so you get a bunch of extra shots on target without having to lead it.

choppers, even apache, has armor to withstand only light caliber fire. 50 cal, is nowhere near the light caliber category. Hence, yeah.

blame that on the stupid BF2 engine. as far as i know, you cant implement locational damage to a vehicle in BF2 {someone correct me if im wrong} so while in real life im sure its much more damaging to shoot a chopper in the engine area, in BF2 it makes no difference where you shoot it.

BF2 SP Bot Changer (2.1) - FileFront.com
Botchanger allows the numbers and skill of the bots to be tweaked for any of the Sp mods.
Now this doesn't stop them doing some silly things but it does make them a lot more dangerous.
Enjoy

BHs AFAIK have very tpugh undersides, tough enough to resist, or at least aatempt to stop RPG Rounds as that is where they are most likely to get hit.

Your wrong, tanks take more damage in belts, apc's in wheels and rear armor, and vBF2 choppers go down way faster if you shoot the windows...

just watch out on MP you might just end up dead not having a clue what happened.

(By the way dont take any offense to that, i meant it in the most friendly, but non-gay voice possible)

It works on local servers but not on dedicated servers (all mp servers)
try loading a map from 'create local server' tab and swing the tail rotor in to a mountain or building.
@locational damage
On tanks, some areas are less armoured than others (tracks), but you cannot localize the damage (losing tracks if tracks are shot). In PR, when a tank takes a certain amount of damage, the turret or tracks may be randomly chosen to fail.

What's the deal with the .50 on the Landie? It seems that it has a MUCH lower traverse than any other light transport...I managed to take a heli down with it today, but only just barely; it can't aim up anything like as high as the others.
