Enemy weapons on vehicles...

This may have been suggested and/or questioned before....

I see the logic in not allowing forces to be able to hop into the enemy's vehicles and so forth and steal them.

Just wondering why it wasnt at least allowable to hop into a vehicle, a land-rover for instance, with a gun mount on it to at least man the gun only.

It is allowable to pick up an enemy kit and use it.....why not man a gun once the driver has been incapacitated?

Before anyone squawks......Im not talking about armor or helos or fast movers.
Just humvees, landies or technicals and such.

Anyone else?

It shouldnt be....
after all in BF2 anyone can get in anything.

It has been coded so one force cant get into the vehicles of another.
It has also been coded so that the civie class is "recognized" and "killed" when he tries to occupy any weapon's seat on a vehicle.

It seems to me that it could be coded where certain weapon seats could be manned by any player. (except civies of course)

Couldn't be done realistically, easily.

Using existing code you could:

Unlock vehicles
Include driver-kill on a short delay for ALL positions except F2.

Then you could get into an enemy vehicle but you'd have to switch to the gunner's seat or die. You can't make the vehicle put people into the F2 position by default, nor can you make the game not kill people in the wrong seat, by kickig them out of the car - they can only die.

In short, you'd be able to drive vehicles in a limited way by hopping in and out of the F1 and F2 positions rapidly, and anyone trying to get into the wrong seat wouldn't just be told to butt out of the vehicle but instantly die.

It'd be a mess.

I understand somewhat.....
But how did you make it so Joe average couldnt drive the supply trucks?
They dont budge unless you are a commander or a SL.
Couldnt the same "mix/minus" be done for all?

No. Getting used to not being killed by own vehicles is good. Nothing more lame than some lonewolf running past the defence and turn our guns and mow down the most of the team.

Would make sense that, talking stricly about jeeps, anyone could drive them. I mean a car is a car, regardless of which faction uses it. A humvee will drive the same way as a landie, or technical. They may handle differantly, but they're still just cars. But I can understand why we can't, for gameplay reasons.

I highly doubt that any army would steel an enemy vehicle and drive around in it. What will your allys do when they see an enemy vehicle drive towards them?

If you are stranded and transportation is there in the form of a fighting vehicle you can use heck yeah you use an enemy vehicle. That's what radios are for. This is squad so and so we have taken an insurgent technical...we are moving to your position from the southwest do not fire on us. Over....or something to that effect.

Good idea. Rambo endorses this idea too, as otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to save the day...

Well, most people don't leave the keys to their military equipment stuck in the ignition when they get out. It would be a different story if you killed the driver in-car, but I doubt its possible for the game engine to remember if the driver died inside the vehicle or outside.

Make the engineer able to hot-wire jeeps, basicly switching the jeeps alignment. So if a MEC engineer hot-wires a humvee, that humvee is now usable by MEC's and not americans. :O Would be epic for stealth missions. Hijack yourself a humvee, sneak into the enemies base, plant your bombs and get out. Bwuahahahahahaha

There was a reason for taking it out of Project Reality, and a reason why it's still in vanilla.

Go figure 8-)

Once again.....I am not talking about being able to drive an enemy vehicle in any form.

Just being able to use the gun mount only.
It could be set where an enemy has 3 to 5 seconds to switch to the F2 seat or he dies.

There have been many ocassions on Al Basrah, that I have come across a landy that has been "abandoned" or the driver/crew has been killed.

In my book.....it is unrealistic that this vehicle has not been "consumed" and/or "stripped" by the civies and insurgency.

In a real world situation....this "parked" vehicle whether abandoned, damaged, or other would be stripped for parts, "souvenirs", and yes......weapons.

Yeah I agree to a point, it's just that we're getting used to that if it's a friendly vehicle, it's not an enemy. I think it's fine as it is, people can always play a little vanilla if they like these arcade-ish things.

Cheers.

I would think that "Milita and Insurgent Factions" would see an enemy vehicle as a Manna from Heaven or a Gift from Allah if you wish, and a sapper should be able to operate (hotwire) the vehicle with a significant delay.. say 45 seconds. Armored vehicles being the exeption of course.

A realistic part of infantry training includes being smacked in the *** when you allow your vehicle to sit without security and someone hops on the .50 and blasts away at you. All you 'reality' experts are very, very tiresome.
