if you sprint holding the spade you run quieter and for longer. Then with any other weapon / equipment.

The quieter part is true, I tested it offline. You hear less footsteps, but I'm not sure if others around hear less. As for being faster with it out, I didn't notice any change between M16A4 and spade.

From what I know, weapons in your hand can't change how fast or far you can sprint. It is a common myth that holding the knife makes you run faster. I've even seen people do it in vanilla. :s

I think they do that for 2 reasons:
1. Knifes arent big so you have a greater view without a weapon blocking your view.
2. If you encounter an enemy in CQC you can easely take him out?

Pfff, bloody nubs running away with a knife in their hands while I'm trying to keep up with the M240 and AT4 on my back.

the spade noise is only noticed by the player
