Recon Special Ops

What I wanna suggest is to bring up two different Spec Op kits. Both with their own specials. At the moment you have a Spec Op which is some kind of a recon- and demolitions-specialist. So what about one for demolition-tasks and one for recon-tasks, who can also operate as a spotter very well and so he is someone all the (good!) snipers in the community are praying for atm ^^. The equipment could be as my example...

Demolition- / CQ-Specialist
  • Knife
  • Pistol (3 + 1 Mags)
  • Carbine (for example M4 / up to 6 + 1 mags)
  • Flashbang (2 or 3)
  • Frag grenades (3 or 4)
  • SLAM (4 as it is atm)
  • Binoculars
  • Field Dressings (4)
  • C 4
Recon-Specialist (Spotter)
  • Knife
  • silenced Pistol (2 + 1 Mags)
  • Rifle (something like 80 rounds) !!!NO SCOPE!!! something like the M68 would be good. This kit shouldn't become another marksman!
  • Frag Grenades (1 or 2) -> This guy isn't some kind of a "1337 uberfragg0r". He is quiet and has just enough arms to defend himself (and maybe the sniper for which he works as a spotter) in medium to close ranges for a short time, which they need to pull back.
  • white Smoke Grenades (4 or 5)
  • green Smoke Grenades (2 or 3)
  • SOFLAM
  • Field Dressings (2) -> as said above: This guy won't move close to the enemy as long as he doesn't need to, so he doesn't need more then 2 field dressings
  • Grappling Hook
I would suggest a M14 with a M68 for the US- and the GB-Recon (they also use the M4 ^^), and maybe a HK 33 (Heckler & Koch HK33 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) with an aimpoint for the MEC. I can't suggest anything for the PLA (I'm sorry but i don't know about the chinese armory)

As it exists now, the Spec Ops kit is a joke, and a misinterpretation of how Special Forces operate. In real life, the Special Forces of the main countries in PR would be their own factions, with riflemen, medics, engineers, snipers, marksmen, AT, and the iconic demolitions experts with their 1337 carbines and C4.

In other words, this is a needlessly complicated option that doesn't really solve the problems it was meant to solve.

First of all: Sorry for the title. It should have been something like "Recon Spec Op".

Secondary: Yeah you are right when you say they would need an own faction, but that would be REALLY complicated. So I thought about how to get the best out with the least efforts. ^^

Maybe im seeing only black and white, but what only stands out to me is (appart from two resuggestions strung into one thread) is that all is really being asked is make SF better equpied and make more of them:/

The Officer kit can pretty much do everything you want that kit to do, the only thing it doesn't have is a grappling hook and a suppressor for the pistol...

Don't lock the thread yet, this is an interesting idea when you get through the '2 spec ops kits' nonsense.

How will the Spec Ops debacle be handled for 0.8? Will Spec Ops become some sort of spotter kit while the Engineer's capacity for demolitions is increased?

why we dont remove the specops kit ingame and add a new gamemode??
the assaulters will be replaced by the new special forces, can dreate ownly 1-3 squads with a commander (number of squads will be rated on the number of OpFor maybe 1/3 od soldiers on server)
the defenders take longer spawntimes than the SF

to flashbang PLZ resize the model... the last was TOOO big

Meh the best sniper & spotter squad is:

Squad Leader: Officer Kit
Squad Member 1: Sniper
Squad Member 2: Marksman or Spec Ops

I don't think it is a bad kit. Its good if you don't have a SOFLAM and you are only two guys (sniper/spotter) or you want to go behind enemy lines and mess up their equipment.

IMO, special ops should have a parachute though.

^^Should be map dependant IMO, a grapple is really damn useful on most maps, but on maps like Kashan or Quiling i would rather have a shute.

why? its not like they are going to be dropped from a Hercules any time soon

but these days I'm inclined to agree with gazz...
forget SF and just get more demo on the engineer, best thing would be if the engineer could choose to have mines or slams or somit...

So to please them and me without upsetting the realism crowd you could add another combat engineer, like you have 2 rifleman classes.
Give the current kit a scope and add one without scope, but with grappling hook instead of shotgun or mine.
Mountain engineer is nice, but I dont need the hook in Mestia, much more useful in Qwai, Fools Road and Jabal.

I admit I wrote this because I like lonewolfing behind enemy lines. If they cant find me they loose a bridge or a bunker. 8)

If there was a kit with only pistol, C4 and hook available, I would play that instead of leaving when no good squad is around.

Don't worry, the fourth will.

As far as I can see, this has all - in some way or another - been suggested before. And so this gets the lock.
