Game Crashes Randomly

i searched the forum and couldnt find anything about it crashing randomly, i found that all posts about crashing were during map loading and rounds ending so i thought i would post about it...

i load up project reality no problem and can join a game fine. after mabey 15 minutes of playing the game just turns off... it just exits to the desktop and the game is no longer in the start bar along the bottom. it doesnt make any exit sounds or anything. it just turns off.

set up:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Hard Drive: 120 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Monitor: Philips Flatscreen Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card: Realtek HD Audio output
Speakers/Headphones: Creative Surround Sound
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

i also run teamspeak and xfire while playing on PR.

i havnt tried this on loads of servers so i only know this happens on thebattleareana.com - al basrah server. but i think it has somthing to do with the game not the server

cheers

Must be that game server, I was just going to ask the exact question since I'm having exactly the same problems as you. I can load/Start a game fine but after a random amount of time it crashes to desktop. I have only tried to play thebattleareana.com - Al Basrah Server. But to make things even weirder I had played a perfect game on it before this started happening, an entire round with no lag, no FPS below 50 and up to 70, Nothing went wrong...but now I'm crashing to desktop for no reason.

I have just cleared my Cache Directory and the same thing happened.

It's just the infamous story of Battlefield 2.

Remember 1.3?

PR can't change this.

i just downloaded .75 patch and PR will always crash to desktop after 1 round
(finish 1 round, try the next one and it will crash), and 2 servers just ban me the second i get in them for some wierd reason like a map load error or to much team killing when i havent eaven got on the server in 10 years....

excatly as described random CTDs at battlearena happen to me as well. The interesting point is that this weird behavour started to occur just since last week. As i'm spending almost all my PR time at battlearena and never experienced this before.

Does any one know what happen during last week? perhaps punkbuster update or so?

This happens to me at least once a month. I found that if I go into my bf2 file and delete the profiles folder, this will solve the problem. However when you load the game you will have to reset you audio, video & game settings. I know its time to delete that file when I start crashing to desktop.

I'm having this problem now and then too. Game just turns off by itself because of no apparent reason (and it's not like it always happens when you do something specific ingame).

A guy who's playing in the PRT said that he started to have this CTD,
he thinks it's related to the PunkBuster
I'll send him this "cleaner" link, and thanks for posting it :-)

Hey after a bit more playing it appears that the cleaner didnt help, so i guessed in my case anyway its an overheating problem. Ive downloaded riva Tuner and crancked my fan speeds up to 75% they were initally 25% and now my 8800gt runs at about 65C when playing as oppose to nearly 80.

May have to try that machineofdeath. Mine just started doing this a week or so ago as well. I was wondering if it was a bp issue too.

Its the magically superb crash. Sometimes 80% of the players on a server CTDs. Ive seen this twice the last few days. But it can also have something to do with your clientside.

You might want to run PR in windowed mode to get the error message.
