Mora's tips to combat helicopter pilots and gunners.
Okey, so as most of you guys know i am considered as a good attack chopper gunner.
So i thought I'd share my knowledge with you guys
Okey, first you need to know the basics witch is pretty easy as gunning actually is easy
Chapter one:
Attack modes, zoom & weapon switch.
So the gunner got 3 attack modes.
The first is the cannon.
The second is the LASER-GUIDED mode - Used as said to manually guide the missile to its target.
The third is the LASER-TARGET mode - Used when a target is designated by either a sovlam or a other device the missile can lock-onto it.
You can change the zoom with the C key as you camera change button.
You can switch between you weapons with the F key or the numbers 1/4.
Chapter two:
Know what to use and against what.
Use the cannon for infantry, Choppers and light vehicles such as cars and commander trucks.
Use the LASER-GUIDED mode for armor such as tanks, apcs, aavs, in some cases a chopper.
However you can also just pop a missile in a light vehicle or a group of infantry if time is short.
Use the LASER-TARGET mode for anything that is lased by either a sovlam or by a other chopper.
Chapter three:
Teamwork in the attack chopper.
Now this is important for the pilots among us.
In order to get a clean and smooth shot the pilot needs to hover and hang as still as possible for the gunner to shoot its target. This means no unexpected movement unless the gunner tells you to...
In allot of times when the gunner can see its target and points it out with the Q-spot and attack marker with the T-command rose, the pilot does not need to move at all if he does the gunner gets disorientated and most likely loses its target. Instead the pilot need to wait then the gunner should tell if he needs to move or not.
Also i recoment that you both use voip or any other kind of voice communication software as its much harder to communicate without it. Also i recoment that you know your pilot/gunner as its just much easier to understand each other when you know him/her.
Chapter four:
Altitudes.
Altitudes are different on each map. On this release (0.75) there are only 2 real maps that support attack choppers: Kashan Desert & The Battle For Qinling. There is also The Gulf Of Oman but that map is nah for attack choppers.
Well now to the point! The best altitude on kashan is around 500/700 (cloud alt)
Altitude on Qinling is around 350/500.
Chapter five:
Gunning while in motion.
While in little forward movement (witch is very common) you need to aim a little below the target. This may require some practice. The more forward movement the more you need to aim below the target.
This and other things can be seen on one of my chopper videos on youtube or vimeo.
Chapter six:
Squad leader & Squad.
The gunner is always the squad leader always! Why you ask? Because it needs to mark targets that are spotted or
spotted by himself. This will be much quicker for the gunner or pilot to find its target.
The squad usually only exists of the gunner and pilot this is wrong! Its not really bad or anything but its always nice to be in contact with some ground troops. Also if one of your squad members can acquire a soflam that would be very helpful. The other squad members can go tanking or anything. However its also nice to have a small squad because then its not so much talking over voip and that means less misunderstandings. Communication is vital, but don´t spam the channel!
Chapter seven:
Attacking an enemy attack chopper.
This is not a easy task but try to sneak upon him from the side or behind. If the chopper is in fast motion go for the cannon and the pilot can lock-on and shoot his AA missiles and hydras.
If the chopper is in very slow to non movement, then pilot does not lock-on him only if the chopper sees you.
Get the gunner a clean shot and let him fire the laser-guided missile. If done correctly then you should have a black burning wreck falling down
The Apache is more in the middle and so is the chines chopper.
Chapter eight:
Attacking a AAV.
This is also tricky but if the aav gunner is a dumpass then it shouldn't be a problem at all
However sometimes people are active looking around then its best to stay away unless the target is lased or been attacked by armor.
Chapter nine:
Flairs.
Make sure you have a full pack of flairs as you will definitely need them.
When locked drop fast mulitple flairs and get out of the hot zone and back into the save zone, main base as it takes a couple of minutes to reload a flair pack.
Chapter ten:
Overall players
All players that are on the ground. Spot the targets and give a map grid, laser marker, close air support anything is welcome! Also make sure there is no unexpected AA around.
Last notes:
Don't take any unnecessary risks.
keep on the move between targets, you don't want that clever tank or hat taking you out.
Let the pilot know when you are going to fire, just say something like firing!
