Buildings

What kind of buildings does this mod plan to add? just curious i liked the guard house that poe made for their mod......if their is to be a guard house there has to be a "pole" of some sort that a person can lower or raise to like defend the entrance of the base. the only way it could be raised/lowered would be from the inside. that way drivers have to get out and raise it then get in their vehicle to enter....unless there was a mole on the enemies side...

It all depends of the maps.

I know BF2 tried making everything destroyable, so I think this could work. IMO the areas around windows and doorways and the corners of buildings should be destroyable. That way if infantry is camping inside of a building and popping shots out of windows you can just blast away that small section.

AFAIK only certain points are destructible. I dont think BF2 will have destructible buildings all over the place, only important things like bridges etc.

only programmed parts can be destroyed, so it wont be like Soldner, but this isnt something new, it is already possible with the old good bf1942 engine, but no'one added it (lag).

Pirates did it. They have a map called Scurvy Cove which is a huge city that is being attacked from the sea. The walls of that city are destrucatable.

Also in Forgotten Hope they have an Omaha Beach map. When you get up to the pill boxes, there are two doors separated by about 100 yards. Anyway you can balst those doors open with charges.

Plus if you guys have play Secret Weapons Expansion pack, they have several maps which are objetive mode. So you have to destroy buildings or objects.

Anyway these have been used on a small scale and I imagin that if it was used a lot more in the current engine it would cause major lag. Anyway thats my .02 cents.

Which mod? The Forgotten Hope has some issues with it's latest release. Something about the Pacific maps. Anyway they are patching it soon.

not only FH but also galatic conquest but i found a way to bypass the desktop crash and so i am able to play those mode right now.

Thats right! I forgot that galatic conquest also had destructable equipment. Man, they really did some neat stuff with that mod. Nothing like sneaking up on a sniper leathly injecting them. In FH as a Japanees Officers, you get a Samurai sword and can screem bonzi before you slice them. Now that is going to be fun to sneak up on people and do!

BF2 stated they expirimented with having all buildings being destroyable, but that with all the tanks and planes that every thing got blown up so soon that there was nothing left. They did not say anything about removing that feature on a large scale because of lag, so Im assuming its possible and they simply chose not to. IF they were telling the entire truth(IE not saying "its to laggy heres and excuse you can all go to hell") then I dont see why the windows of buildings couldnt be blown out.

Well in my quest I found this interesting bit.
Bodies go flying, too, thanks to full-on Havok physics. Helmets go flying off peoples' heads, and they also might drop their weapons when you shoot at them.
Might make for some good fun for those anoying snipers. Shoot a guy in a hand so he drops his gun, then when he comes back to get it, shoot him in the face.

*Edit*
More coolness
For instance, our jets will have afterburner that you can use to get a speed burst for a short time. Very useful when you need to get out of trouble. And our aircraft will have functioning head-up displays that tell you about your flying and about your targets. I also want to say that dog-fighting in Modern Warfare will not be about selecting radar blips on a screen and watch them go out. This will be more like the dog-fighting sequences in Top Gun, where you try to get a lock on your enemy and deploy counter measures to avoid incoming heat seeking missiles.
*Edit 2*
AHA! Found it...
Question from Clone_Trooper:
How will the destructable environment work, will everything be destructible or just certain objects?

Sean Decker: Just certain objects. When we looked at playtests of totally destructible objects the gameplay wasn't much fun. Like kids, players tend to destroy things just to watch them blow up. This resulted in everything in the world being destroyed in a matter of minutes, which made the levels somewhat irrelevant. Destructible objects will have gameplay significance in some instances (say a bridge) and some will just be for fun (say a window).

Looks like i can have some fun with coding it :)

After Burner better be fast as hell, seeing a plane zoom on by and then hearing it a second later would be the greatest thing ever.

That sound idea is possible if zou the sound can be coded as an effect, good idea :)

in real life zou can only fly some minutes with the afterburners on

I hope so, would make for nice "sneak" attacks. With the lower fog settings they might be practical since youd be able to see your target without being right on top of it. Come in a mach 2 from a high angle, drop your bombs and pull out all before they hear you. And boom theyre gone. Or just do some nice fly byes over your base just to show off.

Nice find there, Ugly Duck.

I can't wait to see what this team can do with the BF2 engine.
