perhaps this is an age old question about bf2/pr

But why are there no controllable ships in BF2/PR?

Once BF2 came out all you got was a carrier.. not destroyer, nothing.

Anyone have a reason why? I am curious.. I loved controlling the destroyer in bf1942 and bombarding the coast line with cannon fire.

well as the same issue with bfv/42 vs bf2 engine, bf2 can not handle 'vehicle on vehicle' or 'player on vehicle' or such it will explode. 2142 has the titan but it still got its issues since it's based on bf2 engine but bf2 can not do that. Also if a person is standing inside a vehicle (but not in it) the driver will teamkill the player. See several times in the merlin or battleship mod. Collission mesh?

Ok makes sense.
Lame :(

That was one of the best parts about bf1942.. air battles, ground battles, sea battles..
You got it all.

well the way modern navys are it would be boring...missles are used now...the only real action u would get is if u like board their ship...otherwise its just pressing a button and a ship goes boom

is this a universal rule? because I accidentally exited (I know, nubbery mistake) my APC (I was gunner) in the water numerous times, and could stand on it while it continued on toward the shore. I never died, but I did fall off once... I could move around on top of it without dying, though. only fell off because I walked toward the edge.

Like this? 8-)

The maps are all too small for this kind of warfare.
(Same as airplanes imo. Sidenote.)

Battleship mod has WW1 era war ships, but last time I played it it was one and a half year ago

The second coming of Christ?

I've also seen people bail from an APC (the Warrior, to be exact) too early while moving across the desert. Their player model would be outside of the door, then he'd pop into the sky like a rocket and fall down.

It's funny, except some poor person has to wait a minute to spawn back. I try to help and say 'don't bail from moving vehicles, it will kill you in PR', so I don't seem as bad a person. ;)
