Wave To The Rally

I understand Rally points are being changed for 0.8 (so please dont shoot me Fuzz :P )

In spite of that during these mysterious times in the fog of... mystery waiting for 0.8, I'm intrigued on peoples thoughts on my thoughts.

Rally points
  • You spawn at the rally point in waves, so the whole squad must be dead to respawn
  • You get one respawn on your rally, so after the squad is wiped out it needs to be replaced
  • Placing the new rally requires moving 200m from the site of the previous one
  • Big text and bullet points makes me feel professional
I think it might be a good way to induce a fear of death, especially with a full squad stalking through the streets of Basrah with that "who's gonna be first?" going through your head

I think that's a great way to make people wait for their squad too...

just not the... entire.. place a new one...

then you're constantly having to move...

._. no do that...

But the entire wave thing..... makes it a big waste of time..

though what about that one guy who just won't die?

Then you spawn at main? =D

agree, but as others have said, the rest just punishes the squad for one of their guys being alive

i actually like spawning in waves..and if a guy doesnt die u can just spawn at main..or make it half the squad has to be dead to spawn at the rally...but not the moving your rally around all the time...its hard enough find a good place that is hidden from the enemy

I prefer my suggested idea in the medic squad thread.

Have the entire team respawn only a few time in wave during the entire round. Although, they can chose to spawn at main base or RP if there's any up for their squad once the wave is coming.

or, only 1 life/round

I agree with your first point, and think it might be a good addition. Perhaps, however (and this is probably derived from the Insurgency mod for HL2), the squad leader could have a limited number of "forced respawns" per wave. So, if the situation calls for an immediate spawn of the waiting squad members, or there's one guy in the squad who just won't die, the squad can still spawn. If the squad leader is alive, this would be used through the Comm Rose. If not, the Commander has to force-spawn the squad.

The amount of force-spawns could be per rally point, to encourage the movement of rallies (so essentially offer you your later points without the necessity of coding limiting features).

That would work as a special game mode, not as much else..

its like.. Public server wise storyline:

Dave: "Oh hey, yeah.. it's like.. 12, so i'm going to go play some Project Reality ok?"

Girlfriend: "Ok. Love you."

Dave: "Uh huh... me too.. uhhh.. byyye?"

Girlfriend: "You like never tal-"
*dave hangs up*

Dave: "Ok.. time to looooaaaad. Do do DOOOOO do dododoooo *loading BF2* OK! Oh... Hog (or "Insert any other server you wish", =Hog= is my most recent as of tonight) has a new server playing the new game type... Guess i should try it out.. and look it's even Muttrah City (Version 2, :mrgreen :)

*joins server*

*waits through the 7 minute load up time cause even on medium/low settings it takes forever (old computer for me)*

Dave: "Ok... do odo DOOOO "
*joins game, finds a squad titled "Teamwork", then chooses a kit and spawns at rally, or not*
Dave: "wait.. whoa whoa whoa... why can't i spawn at rally?"
Squad Leader: "Nub you have to wait for the waves man... read the manual...."
Dave: "Oh... waves? Oh yeah i remember some guys and that Lithium... battery guy talking about it"

*dave finally spawns, dies*

Dave: "WTF? I just spawned!"

Squad Leader: "Yeah well.. go ahead and spawn at main"

*dave spawns at main*

Random Idiot #172: "Hehe... Boom"

*RI#172 detonates a C4 near most of the spawn points*

Dave: "WTH!?!?!?... Ok... i'll try again"

*dave tries to spawn, but notices that a small thing saying "You are dead" down where his compass usually is*

Dave: "Why... does that say i am dead? i know i'm dead.. im trying to respawn"

Helpful Member: "Oh... yeah you only get 2 lives on this server"

Dave: "Are... you kidding me? o_o I just got here.. it's only 5 minutes into the round!"

HM: "Yeah well, the round should only last a few more minutes. Everyone will die soon anyways, except for the skillful snipers.. that might make it last the entire 2 hour time limit. They'll never find each other"

Dave: "... so we just sit here... and wait?"

HM: "Yup..."

Dave: "With the black screen that blocks everything we can see..."

HM: "Yup..."

Dave: "For hours....."

HM: "Affirmative.."

Dave: ".. the realism is cool.. but this isn't america's army... and... Muttrah... is... huge..... compared to... any map really...."

Squad Leader: "Do i really have to deal with this baby all day?"

Dave: "... i'm sorry i got taken out by a team killer"

SL: "Boohoo, deal with it... "

Dave: "You... you know what this has gotten ridiculous... when the dev's add a nuke, i might come back... but until then... geez....."

Well, if these new rally point changes improve squad cohesion, while preventing people from joining, knifing the rally and team-killing the squad, then I'm up for it. :)

But this could also harm the innocent player who just joined mid-game, so our take on the new RP system may be different than what will actually happen. ;)

*loads it up, gets in game, joins a "Single Life game" not noticing what evil i brought upon myself, does all the squad stuff, spawns on a wave*

Lithium: "Hey guys... whats the situa... *sniped* ... ....great... *looks at timer, it reads 2 hours* ... So uh... how long have the games been lasting?"

SomeGuy: "..Full 2 hours..."

Lithium: "Right... Well good night"

-------All of the above would have had to happen within about... 7 minutes-------

Yeah, 2-3 hours lasting game isnt good for a wave respawning game mode or 1 life/round thats why it would require wether small maps or fast gameplay mode.

Now for those complaining about dying... its the point of having 1 life or wave respawn... To make you CARE more about your virtual life. Let me tell you people who will teamkill on such a game mode, will be perma ban!

hows about .. you can place rally points anywhere.. but if 3-5 enemies get into that area .. it goes inactive.. i've been griping about this for ages.. i hope so..

Maybe an in between could be found, like tying the respawn timer to the whole squad, ie if somebody dies and a couple of sec later another member dies the timer of the guy who died first gets reset to match the timer of the guy who died last. That way you have spawning in waves to some degree at the same time the other members are motivated to stay alive to not prolong spawn time.

This talk for waves reminds me of Day of Defeat.

How about after your spawn time, you have a 10 sec buffer. If another squaddie is 10sec or less from spawning you have to wait for them.

Wouldn't this add a lot of complexity to the code though (coordinating spawn times)? Also, wouldn't a lot of people be irritated about having an extra 10sec (or whatever time) to wait, just because another team member died?

Remember though, that people play PR because its a fun, realism inspired game. If people wanted a nerfed simulator inspired by games, they'd play ARMA. "Contact. Squad at 3 o'clock, far. Near the rocks... I don't think they see-- *dead for rest of round*" One life games like CS/CSS are still wildly popular, because you don't have to travel 10min to your objective, with the whole round lasting 45-180min.

As one person mentioned, if it takes more time to get into the game than you can stay alive (even a skilled, veteran player can be hit with a luck shot, or a TK), then it isn't very rewarding.

I'd suggest against it, but per person tickets would be better than "one life". When a person connects, they buy tickets from the pot. Earning points earns more personal tickets (maybe 1 per 200points). If they run out of tickets, they are out for the round. When they disconnect, the remaining tickets go back into the pot. Starting the round with 30% more tickets than now to compensate. Though I can see people being "kicked for the tickets, to save the team".

Yeh I like that idea more than the original idea.

I didnt even know that the RP's are going to change in .8 What is going to change?

IMHO, with the new medic system this wont be all that effective. That and rudd will be allot more needed.

I'm sorry but i hate this idea.

Why punish anyone for being alive and start a religion on squad member kicking in order to allow others to spawn? And 200 meters? on the smaller maps there are only a few places rallys can be dropped! We really need to stop trying to make pr into some sort of ultra realism alternative reality game, it's not possible to make a game that will have anything like a reflection on being shot on dieing in real life so we really need to draw the line and stop trying to force though ideas that will make it more realistic.

Want to play a game were you only get one life that’s really realistic?
Try real life, its the most realistic game out there!
