Encouraging teamwork, how?

I'm new to PR and I'll admit I'm not anywhere near über-player level, but I do really like the realism and teamwork. I find that "suggesting" squadplay over VoIP doesn't really work, and as squad leader kicking squad mates who 'lone wolf' seems to send the wrong messege, and other players tend to leave when I get too heavy handed.
Any suggestions from the vets?
Also: thanks again to the developers, testers, and creators of PR!

Hopefully people who are lone wolves will learn that they will get raped up the *** if they stay by themselves (unless they're a sniper and supporting an assaulting group). The people getting sick of being killed alot will begin to stick with their team, while the people who were meant to play vanilla BF2 will go back to CrapFest 1.2
All in all, I can't think of any ways to encourage teamwork

I have to write it again, teamwork comes naturally the more realistic it gets.
As it is now, most new servers dont have a clue of how the settings should be. They don't know what AAS is, they dont want to change spawntime, VOIP disabled and so on...makes me sick that stupid server owners destroys the potential of this mod.

the thing ive found is that players quickly learn that they need to stick with there squad to do ANY damage and survie (or as the case may be they dont learn and leave the mod for good).
This seems to be a effective way to encorage ppl to work as squads as it really nocks it into there skull when they have been killed and mowed down by a squad for the 10th time when they where bunny hopping through the woods

Thanks for all the replys! I just played a few maps on Gloryhoundz and noticed a really interesting progression. When I got on the server it was at 20 players, and the squad work was smooth and effortless. As more and more players got on the squadwork just stopped and more chaos replaced it. By the time I disconnected there was virtually no squadwork and any tries to regroup the squad fell on deaf ears. Oh well. It was still fun, but good squadwork regardless of skill, makes the game a totally different experience.
Just an observation.

Is there more squadwork in Clans? I've never joined one, I'm curious if that would be a better route for positive teamplay.

for the most part, i would say yes. it just depends which clan you decide to apply to.

The point of 70% of clans is to have teamwork. Some play for only fun, others play for only "Stat whoreing". But most for the teamwork.
My clan plays "for the fun, the skill, and as a team!"

ScrotaniumAlloy there can be good squad work in clans, but it still depends on players types. I my clan (EWG) we have two squads, one who play BF2 a clanbase infantry only ladder squad and another that play standard BF2 (vehicles etc and all that yukcy stuff). Even within these squads there are some players who are more naturally lone wolf, only play pilot etc but equally there are those who enjoy being squad players.
I agree with Schiller that server settings can have an affect. I'm not harsh enough to blame the admins. There are a few servers that have been evolving their settings over time. Ther are others just getting into PRMM that still have mistakes to make and lessons to learn. There are others who are limited as to what they can do by their hosts (myself included).
In an ideal world we would all be rich enough to be able to donate money to the PRM guys to run their own servers with their recomended settings. In the mean time you have to try and encourage team play by creating a squad, if it doesn't work try another server

Hey Scrotanium, I was playing with you. A bit before you logged on it was 8 on 8 in Karkand. We were playing US side and the MEC were handing it to us. Additionally, I *seemed* to be the only one with a mic. I joined the squad (there were 3-4 guys in it) and asked the unsquadded fellows why they didn't join as well. The squad was soon topped out. At first it was impossible to progress past our spawn, but eventually the 2 SAWs started to coordinate a bit covering different fire sectors and we were able to move a few blocks. The round however ended shortly after I had connected.
The next round, as MEC, me and a guy named Garth formed a 2 man squad. Though he didn't have a mic, he was spot on covering the multiple angles as well as leapfrogging with me. He would use PGUP and PGDWN and spot enemies to communicate with me. The two of us managed to do really well that round unsupported as we where. It was awesome working with this guy.
I don't recall you having a mic - maybe I missed it? I was the one calling you "scrotum"

I missed a jump and fell off a building

and you tried to revive me... but instead you made a similar crater on the floor next to me!
In closing, if you are interested in putting together some people for a team, I am willing to join you. I have a few BF2 buddies who I think will jump at this mod like I have (this was my first time) and I will tell them about it today.
Let me know.
P.S. As far as a mic, if you don't have one, I recommend any of the plethora of headsets available. In particular the one I use is put out by PLANTRONICS and I bought it for $30 US.

Hey Battle,
Yeah I thought that the couple of games on Karkand were pretty good. I did have a mic, but I tried talking, nobody seemed to hear me. Also I didn't hear any other people on voice. Maybe there is some setting that I'm missing, I've had a similar problem before, can't remember how I fixed it.
If you do want a team, I'm all for that.
I've got a cheap plantronics headset that does the job.
I'm going to go troubleshoot my VoIP.

Does gloryhoundz actually have VoIP, or is it teamspeak only?

Name your squad "TEAMWORK" for example, people get the message when you kick them for not teamplaying.

That's a good idea Malum, I'll use that.

VoIP is enabled on the server, because others say they can hear me. VoIP was a pain to get working, and once I did I never touched anything so I don't know what to tell ya, but here are a few things:
1.From what I remember, sound card was a big deal. I never got it to work with my onboard sound - I had to get a SoundBlaster card that was on the "supported list" of BF2. If VoIP HAS worked for you in the past then this probably isn't it.
2. Considering that you can neither transmit nor recieve, I am prone to believe that its not a Window's setting (such as a muted microphone, for example) but rather an issue with BF2 itself. If you could at least recieve then we would be halfway there. =)
3. So... the only thing I can really say is make sure VoIP is enabled in the game BEFORE you connect to the server, and also check once more when you are in-game. It has happened to me that once connected the VoIP box will uncheck itself. If that is squared away, make sure Mic Boost is enabled in BF2 Options-> Sound.
Good luck.

I figured it out...I've got voice now. I'm not sure how, but it's working and verified. Those tips are good ones.

You have to speak rather loudly into the mic to get it to pick up in battlefield, and even then the quality is low, which is why servers suggest Teamspeak. I try using it too, but people don't usually hear me either.

We find that teamplay is an ethos, our community tries to encourage teamplay and there are those who join and learn and those who join and get kicked. We find that on nights where our own teamplay starts to drop then it quickly spreads throughout the server so I guess it's in your own best interest to keep playing in a team oriented fashion even if others aren't. Its funny how often they get the message

I think its a bigger problem to motivate the Squad Leaders than his members.
I am not very good at Squad leading but i´ll try my best giving orders and trying to survive so they can spawn at my position. But there Squadleader lying on a rooftop far away fromt the front sniping down on the enemy without giving orders or something. Im my opinion a sniper doesnt have to be in a squad. He should give the place to a assault or medic or whatever.
But I have had already some nice sessions with good squads and leaders.
(AArghh!! I hate this mod so much but I cant stop playing it.

What if they could force squad and force people to get in.....like at the start of the game they could be 3 different squad already created, squad 1=attack, squad 2 defense, squad 3 flank, and so on for other squad when more people, since they re's no commander, would be nice to have some kind of feature for squad leader to determine tactics and for squad memeber to see those tactics, like a simple graph on the map with check point, arrow!? anything that can give direction, maybe an automatic spawn on your squad leader could force things up a bit! Server message that give direction for your squad tactics and movement....enven the message like when your going out of bound when you ge5t to far from your squad leader....and you get to die if you dont come back, this last one combine with player automaticly getting assigned in squad would be something that may work.....maybe a possibility to choose defensive squad or attack squad....then you get in a squad automaticly....im just brainstorming here bringing new ideas....\\
