ok well im in 3ds max and using the vertexes to create an area. then i realise that this middle section that i left open is lower than the rest so i go and select the eges around it and try to use the uniform scale tool while holding shift to create and extra little extension to go inwards but only some of the edges i selected created an extension the rest just created a red line that went parrallel right on top of it. i am so confused as to what to do! plz help me

Please post an image in perspective view so the (X,Y,Z) coordinates can be seen better, cause I still don’t understand your motives.
PS. I'm pretty tired so I'll probably answer your question after I take a little nap, unless if someone beats me to the punch that is.

it looks like eather:
1.) the verts are not connected = use the target weld tool to weld those verts
2.) you already have made a poly there by accident = Select the edge and drag it out to see if there is a hidden poly there. If there isn't and you just stretched it out then just it Ctrl-Z which is undo
Hope this helps.

See your mistake here is that you’re trying to Shift-drag those edges while the symmetry on each of those selected edges is different. What’s happening is that the edges are being dragged in relevance to their own individual coordinates. Observing your model I can see that the top portion of your selected vertices form a slant on the x-axis, so the shift-drag on the x coordinates will translate to a lesser degree to the bottom vertices which are positioned more forward than those on top. I suggest you follow a different approach instead; such as creating polygons. First begin by enabling Snaps Toggle, then right click and only have Vertex check-marked. Under Editable Poly select Polygon; right click on the model and chose Create. Then simply create that section by going though the appropriate vertices for each area.
