*searched but found very limited other posts so i will post this still.
IRL when bullets strike earth, dirt especially, or buildings there are more 'smoke' clouds. even more with higher caliber weapons. when a squad with assault rifles, a LMG, a grenade launcher open up on a enemy location smoke eventually covers everything. so then they have to yell "Cease fire" so the smoke can clear and the situation can be assessed.

In PR however there are smoke effects but i think they are too small and 'evaporate' way too fast.
IRL When a heavy machine machine gun or cannon caliber (>25mm i think) weapon or a tank shell impacts on target there is alot of smoke -like if someone threw a smoke grenade.
In PR there is just a little smoke that dissapears.

So i suggest that the new PR 0.8 should have increased smoke effects from fire impacting and from explosions especially. But to distinguish smoke from this and from actual smoke grenades different colors could be used. i think darker color smoke from bullet impacts and from explosions would be good.

There are gonna be alot more cool effects in .8. Take a wee look in the community modding section and the DEV journal archive. The team are kinda limited by the whole aesthetics/lag balance thing too, so that can be a big factor in some of these.

i would love to see what you suggest. it might be a performance issue for many ppl though
as well, someone would have to code it, make teh effects and so on... pretty much work i would believe

Overall I agree, some dust should kick up from rockets/bombs/grenades etc. But mostly, I would like to see some larger impact effects for those LGBS of the CAS aircraft, they are not large enough IMO.
Isn't there an 'effects' option in the Video Options menu? Would this help alleviate smoke lag on lower-end computers?

problem is that lowering the effects would make it unfair gameplay for those with higher-end computers who like to run with the effects. The PR mod team want's to make the effects as balanced as possible for both high-end and low-end users...
though personally i think maybe Project Reality should have a donation fund for people we KNOW have low-end systems.... =/ there's all kind of liars, but i think dedicated PR people who have low end computers should be able to, say, win nicer systems in a drawing or something XD
(i wouldn't be one of these people.. i just want to upgrade my Nvid 8500gt so that AA 8x runs faster than 20 fps XD)
but yeah.... ^_^ i'll offer to help AFTER i upgrade my gfx card and i get a job and pay off my friends and family for the debts i owe on food and my 260somthing dollar camera for school XD
