[Map] Operation Chicago [scrapped]

I started this map to get some experience mapping with PR (rather than FH2) and for experience using more advanced methods for texturing. I never thought I would actually get close to finishing it but it started to turn out better than expected so here is a preview although alot of the map is still rough and will probably change.

Map Size: 512x2
Factions: GB vs. PLA
Combat Type: Mech. Infantry
Location: Fulda Gap
Geography: Small hills w/ farm fields

Minimap (Oh yea, the two Chinese flags are just for testing purposes right now):

I likeit pretty good really like the detailin the mini maps as well... :) should be like that on all maps. or even more like real maps from real soldiers in the field same as what they would use :)

A quaint, homely, cozy battlefield. :) Since it looks like farmlands, maybe some silos or warehouses. :)

there all from 0.7

check out fools road, most of them are on there at the flag across the bridge from the British start point.

looks good, but a bunch of major flaws :p

1. you have used our Russian/Eastern EU themed village buildings (that are still WIP and the 2 story ones are really buggy, windows cant be shot out of etc), but you have stuck the chinese on here? it should really be the militia on this map...

2. A jet on a 512x2 map? geee you should listen to the testers and other devs when they even hear of a jet being considered for a 1024x2 map :p

3. you should really sink your buildings into the ground more, they only have that bit underneath them if they are placed on uneven terrain so they have a even foundation base.

4. use of tall undergrowth is a bad idea, only renders for 50 or so meters then anything hiding in it is exposed in open ground. Use overgrowth fields where possible.

5. need to work on your lighting, parts of your trees are black etc.

apart from that it's a good start but needs lots of work yet.

if you actually read the captions you would see that the jet is not useable try reading first

oh im sorry, i missed that little line squeezed between 2 images really out of site... maybe you guys want me to spend my whole day looking for hidden text rather than working on PR I take it now? :roll:

anyway's I see no purpose for a non usable jet on the map parked next to a hose on a field, dose not belong there at all and also if you do want to use it you should code it up so it can't be used, not stick a bunch of crates around it :p

1. its not hidden
2. it only takes 10 seconds to read all of them so its hardly going to prevent you from working or PR

na you see, most ppl read the text at the top, then scroll though the pics looking at them then read the text on the bottom as I just did. I'm hardly "wrong" :roll:

besides, my point stands that a jet dose not suit there at all.

Maybe I should just not give any feedback would be best? then I just dont have to deal with ppl like spyker who just want to argue about how a post should be read? :)

ok but i never once disrespected you i just made a point and by the way i only disagree on your jet theory i agree with the eastern european thing

well as a n00b mapper my self i would appreciate any help, espically as my textures are FUBAR, but thats not the point.

Thanx for the criticsm Rhino, hear is my respone:

1. Oh well and I did not know PR had a militia faction. I thought it was only the two insurgent factions.

2. Here is a better shot. I thought it was kinda a cool idea, but you guys don't seem to think so, so maybe I'll remove it later.

3. I know, I will do it later. It just gets a little tedious because the whole map is that kind of static.

4. Thanx, I will try it.

5. I know. For some reason the whole lightmapping process went horribley wrong. vBf2 statics are pitch black and PR statics seem fine. It really only looks good on the minimap :? ??:

Oh and I think you should keep giving critisms Rhino!
