Officer Importance

I was playing on a server the other night, and as a sniper i went "behind enemy lines" and killed a couple of guys including wounding an officer. I just thought it would be great, if killing an officer (or commander for that matter) would impact the enemy team in a larger way than killing a regular grunt would. I was thinking if you kill an officer the enemy should have 2 tickets reduced or something like that instead of one. I don't know if the BF2 engine reads one kill as one ticket, but if this could be done, i think officers would be a larger target on the battlefield, instead of a regular soldier.

There already IS a larger impact, though not something that can be directly expressed in numbers. If you kill a SL, the squad cannot place anymore rally points, have targets lazed, request air support, build assets or have units marked on the map.
If you kill the Commander, the whole ARMY cannot large assets anymore, receive CAS and individual squad communication is down, too. B-Button to speak to individual squads only works in Commander Screen, which is down while dead.

...for the eternity that is 30 seconds

he's not wrong when he says that killing officers does not have any real impact

Well, 30 seconds plus a few minutes for the squad to regroup, if he doesnt forget to take out the rally point too or take out the Officer far enough away from the RP (depending on map size and location)

Though... Yes, more ticket loss or something for SL death could be good. Maybe the devs can do something for the scenario mode, like some kind of intel points for dead officers or whatever.

So in essence, killing SLs is more damaging than COs, there needs to be a little bit more of a penalty for the death of a CO, I endorse this suggestion. On a similar note, I also believe all Officers should have Helmets instead of Berets, but hey...

yeah, i think there should be MORE distinction between an officer and grunt as well.

There really shouldn't me that much visual distinction between an officer and his men. Look at a group of marines all geared up and about the only difference you will see are small insignias and maybe a pistol. Officers don't make themselves stick out...because they know that they would be the first target to be hit.

Being able to separate officers from grunts using details like that is just too situational for a game like PR. It does work for a combat simulator like ArmA, but it just isn't compatible with Battlefield's smaller-scale combat.

there should be a penalty..but not a big one..the penalties in game are already kinda bad..maybe SL 2 tickets co 4 tickets..regulars 1???

2 ticket loss for SL kill, 5 ticket loss for Commander kill. thats sounds good.
i think this would promote more tactical manuvering of squads with decided point men and formations; -5 tickets for Cammander kill could simulate moral loss

good idea
