Officer/Special Operations Idea

Now, This would totally be going against the grain of the US Army = M4, USMC = M16 but, this could work in a future release. Instead of having one firearm for one faction give Officers and Spec Ops the M4 and have the primary fighting units with the M16 (providing longer range and accuracy. Since the Officers are commanding the squad and worried about many other things besides killing everyone they see the M4 might just be more practical. Comments?

I play officer all the time and I don't want an M4. I prefer the range on a full length rifle.

Maybe we are getting closer to different types of Officer kit (it's nice to play different kits and is the one thing an SL misses out on).

Officer kit for armour squad, Officer kit for Assault (as it is now), Officer Kit for Special Operations.... not to hijack your thread of course!

Ok, incorporating your idea Crook Foot of enjoying the range of the M16, the weapon the Officer receives should vary on the map. Close Quarters = M4, Desert/Woodland = M16 or something.

The military's shift to the M4 is a result of increasing army operations in built-up terrain where the size of an M16 makes it slightly awkward to use in close quarters combat. Since most of Project Reality's battles take place in conventional rural or open terrain, it would make sense to equip the US forces with the M16 in these battles rather than needlessly suffer the decrease in muzzle velocity and accuracy attributed to adopting the M4 over the M16.

The thing is, .8 is heavily focused on maps, some of which are smaller city maps making the M4 more necessary.

However it is in real life is good with me, but mobius has a point.

And I didn't realise you've tested the 0.8 maps jimmy? :D

But seriously, I don't see the point really, since the officer isn't meant to be the CQB god of the squad why should he get a different gun? Better that he has the same gun so that he can engage teh same targets as the rest of his squad.

regardless, it really depends still on what branch of the US military you playing on a map. if its USMC, well they mostly use m16s since thats how it is in real life, same with the US army and the M4.
