question: EA patch

iirc i rember people say after ea usually releases patches it causes problems w/ pr so a pr patch needs to be made to fix what EA messed up. but if lets say the devs release .8 b4 EA realeases the new patch (which looks reasonable the way EA works) how long would it take the devs to fix the ea patch???

too long.

my advice, dont waste ur time getting the update for BF2 until the devs allow PR to play over it.

it depends on the amount of bugs it casues. there has been patches where there has been no bugs caused or nothing has needed to be changed (but they are normally from when EA mess so much stuff up in the first patch they need to release anouther patch after, to patch the patch :p )

so best thing to do if you want to play PR only, not to patch till we have said its ok and/or released a update to fix the bugs caused by the patch.

I think EA dice is making a final patch that fixes everything with no side effects. Or am i just dreaming now...

Oh and will PR .8 be release before the patch is out or after?

well i dont think there is a release date yet for the BF2 patch so i doubt the devs would wait for that before they release.8

Okay, good, we're not waiting for that stupid patch then, yay! Good to hear the devs are not waiting for the patch to release, like other mods :/ As i dont see that patch being released anytime soon... Maybe it was just a joke and in a year EA come and tell us that they were just kidding and give us an extra map instead, they call it "Wake Karkand 1.5", looks like Karkand, with the US having jets, bombers and helicopters and the MEC having 24 bases in the city on a map size of 512² or so...

Actually, this patch should be worth getting - integrated Widescreen support, for example.

No-one should be expecting 128-player servers or anything like that, but it's almost certainly not going to effect PR's gameplay other than the initial "break" of the mod and and it might even bring one or two things useful. We can but wait and see...

There will be a new map afaik

Hope that it is any good to be converted to PR =P

Hope that too.

But nowadays, where most of the people that plays PR own a bf2 copy just to play the mod, the patch isn't really an important issue (i mean, an important issue for not just installing the day it's released).

We can wait for sure until the PR devs tells us to install it, with or without any modification/hotfix patch for PR.

Actually, i don't care too much about the bf2 patch. I'm more about new versions of PR :-D (unless the bf2 brings some new functionality that PR can use for improvement...)

I dont think we will ever see that patch. I dont know why but its just taking so long. And why would they even release yet another patch for BF2.

Why would they release one? Uh, because the BF2 community as a whole have been yelling for certain features (like native widescreen support) for years, and because they have new games in the BF series coming out so issuing a new patch is a way of resparking interest in the existing BF games?

You don't know why it's taking so long? Probably because they have to go through exactly the same processes that we at PR have to - make the updates, test them, refine them, test them again, refine them again etc etc all before release. Except they're releasing to several thousand players instead of several hundred.

That's why.

I'm just saying: They anounced this a long time ago and Dice never seemed to listen to community stuff anyway! When I still played BF2142 ( too bad I lost my CD ) there where Dice members on the Total Gaming forums and it seemed that they always had some excuse why normal stuff ( for example widescreen support ) couldnt be implemented.

Im sorry man! Ofcourse I know why it takes long to do something software-wise. I was just saying. Not sure how you can translate this but in dutch it means: A question that you dont need an answer for. Its just a way of saying like: Ah! I dont see this happening soon.

I'd put off the BF2 patch to play PR.8 until PR.9 comes out.

You could always just install two versions of BF2 if you want to play the new BF2 patch. One version patched to 1.41 (for PR), and one for 1.5 (from EA)
