A dont know what to put to search this so....
Al just say it here =]
would it be possible with the bf2 engine to put knifes on the end of rifles so if u see an enemy you can jus stab them and save firing off a shot?
I think that would be rather cool...

Project Reality man!! ><
They don't keep bayonets on their rifles!
Anyways this has probably been already suggested and you also posted it in the wrong section and even if they did want to do it it would be impossible cause you'd have to switch weapons anyways.

It's possible and can be seen in the Forgotten Hope 2 mod, but bayonets are't used by modern armies afaik, and is therefore unrealistic!
If you manage to sneak up behind an enemy, simply use your knife instead!

Its an aesthetic change to the knife, plain and simple. Although.. oh.. how do I do this?
I think that was right.

They are and very effectively. Often British Troops fit bayonets for CQB, also its very intimidating to the enemy when the cold steel is glinting!!!
Just as Big Lebowski has pointed out.

Bayonets are still used people, but it would count as a separate weapon so the knife does fine.

And with those new animations, it'll be equally fun stabbing people.

Yeah those new knife animations in the animations movie are pimp.
Bayonets are still used, but we would have to model it, then animate it.

If you want bayonets they have to be a totally different weapon than knife. First, most modern armies have 1 knife that is a bayonet/knife combo. So, the knife could stay as is, but then you could have a bayonet as well, but it would take longer to fix. Basically, making the knife a quick-reaction self defense tool and the bayonet would be a weapon used in the case of low ammuntion (as both are in real life). Personally, I think bayonets are awesome, but they are also totally unneccesary in PR.

How in gods name are bayonets unrealistic....jesus people....
Im fairy certin modern armies still train with the bayonet (at least the US millitary from what Ive seen/heard) so its completely realistic. And imo itd be more bad *** to bayonet some one then to shank them

Bayonets are a bit unrealistic because in PR, the knife is meant to be a last resort, heat of the moment weapon. In real life, bayonets are fixed when (and only) it is overly likely that there will be extremely close encounters with the enemy. Or in the rare case that a group of soldiers depletes their ammunition, then bayonets may also be fixed.

PR is based in the near future however, and since there is no back story for all we know it could be as bad as WW2. So whats to say in the PR realm of realism that bayonets wouldnt be used?

I dont know about other armies but im almost positive that the marine corp have bayonets, but they dont just walk around with fixed bayonets. There only put on during certain situations.

Are bayonets unrealistic?... probably not.
Are bayonets used in CQB?... maybe in some armies.
Are bayonets effectively used against enemy in CQB?... I guess not, the instinct to pull the trigger and spray the lead in to enemy direction is probably much stronger, plus the enemy is usually out of reach for bayonets.
Now, let's talk about gameplay and bf2 game engine. Is it possible to use bayonets in a realistic way as a secondary attack without changing the weapon (just like COD melee attack and not FH2 style*)? If not then it's not going to change anything in gameplay since it would be used in the same way as a knife.
*info for all those who haven't seen FH2. Bayonet in FH2 is just another weapon in another weapon slot (just like assault rifle ang ugl), you can't shoot and stab with the same weapon at the same time, you have to change weapon first.
