Reload time?

ok so i've seen some of the videos showing off the new weapons animations and i cant help but notice the reload time is really really slow. i mean these guys look like they're taking their sweet time at the firing range. its not the fact they spend time checking their magazines and what not but they take whole seconds checking them, on the field i do believe it would only be a glance.

Example:
if you were at the range and your rifle jams you would do all the checks to make sure your rifle is ok and everything is working.

if you were underfire in a live battlefield and your rifle jams, you do "instant action" rack, tap, bang. no magazine check, chamber check...maybe.

so just wondering if this is because they are genuinly slow, in which case i suggest speeding up the animations while keeping everything they do.

or is it just slowed down so we see everything they're doing within the video?

you oviously havent had to change a mag in fast timing, i can understand the AK being fast, but L85, QBZ etc. etc. to do take there time, because if you were in a battle, it is very easy to get dirt, sand, mud etc.etc. in your mag and then you jam your weapon, then you get blow up by an american bomber...

Then they blame the jews...

Then jesus kills a lama.

So please, before you post.

think of the lamas.

no what i mean is it takes too long in the videos to do those checks, for that matter you dont look inside your magazine to check for dirt, you tap it agains the rifle upside down or against your helmet to shake it all out

all loaded magazines are to be stored upside down and empty mags stored right side up so you dont need to look at your pockets when you reach for a new mag to see if you grabbed a loaded one or an empty one, this also helps to prevent dirt and mud from getting inside the magazine. aswell almost all pockets these days are waterproof so mud or some other liquid which carry in obstructions. is unlikely as well.

its not easy to change mag in say an L85, ive used one on a sats range and when your trying to change quickly its easy to miss the actual space for the magazine.

You're going to look down.
And you're going to be damn sure it's clear of obstruction.

Because the one time you don't and make a mistake, could happen in a very bad situation.

Have your squadmates cover you, and reload in safety.

L85 from experience are pretty good at reloading, i can do it reasonably fast standing up, but lying down for me is more difficult and slow.

I second that.

Forgive me for only quoting this, but as I said in the knife speed thread, .8 is, in my opinion, and others, focusing on slowing the gameplay and making things much more tactical and methodical.

What we need to get away from is the point blank, around the corner popping, wip out your gun, shoot him dead on your own type of gameplay.

What we need is the slow, methodical feeling of relative safety one has as he sets up his m249 next to an ammo rifleman with a marksman and rifleman on the roof above them.

We need soldiers setting up in a position and working with their entire team to defend and attack.

We need soldiers whos animation are slow and steady, yet not painstaking.

We need soldiers reloading behind cover as the rest of their squad fires down range instead of soldiers shooting 30 rounds at 3 MEC then running around a corner as they reload in 2 seconds, then running back around to finish off the fourth.

We need soldiers caught in the middle of reloading/checking a rifle because the rest of their squad wasnt with them.

I hope some of this comes together to show you my thoughts. We need slower gameplay where soldiers are almost 'forced' to play with their squad and tactically leap frog their way down a street.

And trust me, point 8 is doing just that :)

You guys are missing the point.

Slower animations = slower gameplay

And it's intentional. Extra motions have been added to purposefully take up additional time to slow down the game, helping to make it more tactical and less reactionary.

It may be intentional, but reload is one area that should not be slowed down too much, the speed that it goes at in .75 is ok, but making the rifle reload the same time as the .75 SAW, and then upping the SAW is rediculous.

PRv8 isn't even out yet... how have you already made a judgment?

Because I can watch the reload videos posted by the devs and at the bottom of the screen you can watch the seconds go by. And it stands to reason a SAW will take longer to reload than a rifle, and if it doesn't, something is seriously screwed up.

When apc spawning was removed, people complained.
When sl spawning was deleted, people thought it was rediculious.
When the minimap was taken away, people thought it would be seriously screwed up.

Oh ye of little faith.

LiveLeak.com - US Soldiers And Apache Engage Insurgents After Getting Hit By An IED And Small Fire - Iraq

After the ambush at the 3:00 mark, the soldier will shoot and reload a few times. His reloads are nowhere near as fast as you would see in a video game, as his first is really slow. However, after that he then reloads in about 5-6 seconds, which is actually pretty close to the new animations. Personally, I think when you add up combat stress, fatigue, and even just having to pull out magazines from their pouches, it can really add on to the time it takes to reload a weapon. Also, as others have said, slowing down the game play will hopefully encourage more tactical play over your run-of-the-mill-fps reactionary play.

There were far more people in favor of those changes though than against them maybe with the exception of the minimap.

I will like to see how it plays out ingame though.

Many things in this game have been slowed down, but there is always a way to get around them and make the gameplay faster again or "arcadey" because of the BF2 engine.

It plays out just fine. I think most who have played have all commented on how well it slows down gameplay in a good way.
