Civilians. (General Suggestions)

Hello All,

Firstly, I'd Like to say, that I do like the idea of Civilians, just I think they need tweaking.

First Suggestion:

I would like to to see the damage of stones be decreased. Yesterday whilst on a Al Basrah server, I was with my squad in the village, when we were ambushed by 2 civilians, the squad member in front of me got a rock to his upper torso, and was instantly killed beyond revive, this also happened later on in the round when we were searching the cache location. A rock thrown from roughly 15 meters, hit me in the head. Instant Death. I understand, these maybe flukes, but even so, my general perception is they need weakening on the power.

Second Suggestion:

I would like to see civilians, if possible not be working in squads, this maybe extremely hard to work towards. But possibly server admins enforcing this rule? This stops communication among 6 civilians, which can seriously hinder the opposing team trying to sneak past enemy insurgents. Maybe a maximum on 3 civilians in each squad.

Third Suggestion:

I'm not to up to date on Civilian life in the middle east, but unless your some form of tourist, do you carry around Binoculars? I think this gives the civilians to much of a advantage, and sometimes see Civilians spotting for Insurgent snipers, which isn't the done thing in the Middle east. I would like to see the Binos removed, and maybe something new added, some form of hand weapon. (Read next suggestion).

Fourth Suggestion:

Instead of the Binos, We could possibly see some form of hand weapon, maybe a knife, or maybe something less powerful, like a stick, or crobar (I dont know!!) I just think it will be interesting to see Civilians, not used as spotters but maybe just general rioters.

Thanks for reading the suggestions, They may be utterly crazy.

Your Suggestions please!
P.S I did use the search function.

Yes agree.

No, don't like this idea at all, and as you say, difficult to enfore.

Agree, in generation Kill(might be a bad source but hey) they are authorised to kill spotters for mortars.

Maybe, but then when trying to knife a civi, it would suck to get a knife in the throat.

Thanks for agreeing on most of them Scott. I think most of my suggestions form to points: Civi's should not be able to kill, and the should not be 'part' of the insurgents team.

Well they are essentially collaborators, I'm assuming that is, so will help the Insurgents so should be allowed in squads and such, however binos should definately go.

Yeah agree rocks should be less damage since again you're wearing kevlar. Mabye some deviation? Fourh suggestion I think rocks are fine. The thing i hate about civies are the unrealism of tactic. One example would be pissing off tanks by jumping on them and throwing rocks down the "hatch".

Even if you're not wearing Kevlar...they're rocks. You're not going to get killed by a rock, unless you get nailed by a decent sized one, thrown really hard, hitting you in the head/neck.

Rocks should be fixed via deviation not damage

alright
i have my 2 cents too

like it is now, civis are unacceptable
these guys run around, no tactic/teamwork at all and are just trying to instantly piss off the brits by jumping around and stuff

that is the reason y i do shoot them on sight
but .. remove the rocks/ability to clim ladders/ability to jump/ability to sprint and u have a real civilian

And of course you are so leet that you never die during a round, so the respawn penalty won't bother you.

All you guys seem to miss the essential point. Civvies' purpose is to help the insurgents, and they are not simply people talking a walk and suddenly realizing: "Say, where have all the other people gone? And why are so many guys here running around with AKs? And whats that big British Tank doing in my neighborhood."
They have planned to help the Insurgents, but not by killing Enemy Soldiers. So they go get their binos, they normally use for bird spotting (or neighbor spotting) and go Brit Spotting.
I agree, it should be impossible to kill with the rocks, but unless you are already bleeding heavily, a rock will never kill a Soldier, unless hit in head. Problem here is, rock in face should be revivable, but engine wise it counts as headshot.
I could live with a CIvvie that can't jump or climb or run, but then the Brits should NOT get any tickets for "arresting" one.

so, make teh deviation really huge so that its very unlikely you will hit a brit with the rock, but give it a loud noise when it his the ground to make sure you arent being ignored, in order to lead them in to ambushes

havent' you noticed they are softball size? that shtit will f you up...but agreed, not kill you. Rocks maybe should only bring you the blurry vision and give the civ a chance to hide. The way players are though, the civilian would probably keep it up to piss off the brit, but that's fair too, because hopefully the brit would call his buds to take care of the civi.

how about this: if on the fluke chance the ENTIRE insurgent team spawns as civilian, a special target should appear at the mosque where everyone, both british and insurgent should congregate in a big circle and sing kum-by-ya... would be cool for 10 seconds, then a big ied can go off.... probably hard coded though. : )

You say prevent civis from killing with rocks, yet you want them to have a hand weapon? I don't know. . .

Civies are fine, just a bare hand weapon could be nice, instead of rocks, or rocks 0% damage...

P.S. its fun to jump on tanks :P

Why does no one like civi's in squads or civi squads????
I digress....but I think the civi's are fine as is

Well, I don't know anything about your physical condition, but I'm pretty damn sure that about every civilian is able to jump and run IRL. Really, it should be easier for them then for the Brits and Americans since they are not carrying the same kind of heavy equipment.

And about the rocks. If they won't be able to damage enemy soldiers, then what would be the point with them?

I posted this on another Civilian thread, but I guess it could work here too:

IMO, I'd like to see the civilian kit divided. Allow me to explain.

Each aspect of the Civilian kit would be a separate kit picked up in-game at mapper placed spots (most likely houses). These pick-ups would be like the special weapons kits for the insurgents (PKM, RPG, Sniper, etc) and would be the item sitting in the house on a table or whatever.

Picking up another one of these items causes you to drop the other one, which would rejoin the "weapon pool" after a certain amount of time. Insurgents that pick up these and aren't the Civilian class will die (just like the civilians do when they pick up a kit or man a gun)

Basic Civilian - Spawns as this version. Has nothing what so ever. Essentially MUST find a "Improvised Civilian" kit (most will be right next to spawn, but varies from spawn point to spawn point)

Violent Civilian - Carries the rocks

Retired Nurse - Carries the Field Dressings

Bird-Watcher - Carries the Binoculars/Grapple

Construction Worker - Carries the wrench

Each kit would allow the civilians to help the team in one way, but ONLY that way. So no longer will we have to worry about a civilian tossing rocks at you, then climbing a building, or having one healing and attacking at the same time.

This would require the Civilian to stick to a single role and help the team in that way and also make the player think more because of their disadvantages and advantages...instead of just simply being a "meat-shield".

Other than these changes the civilian rules would be exactly the same.

So basically this is just my opinion, I know it's not perfect but just voicing my thoughts.

P.S. I agree with all your idea's Marine94, except for the second one.

I don't know. The Civilian is ok for now, but we do need a sort of enforcer so that will people will be civilians (it's important for the Insurgency game type).
Also, the Civilians in PR really aren't civilians at all, they are just non-combatants (I know, thin line, but the line is there).

Insurgent Sympathiser is the term you're looking for, EOD.

Thanks for all your feedback guys, Much appreciated. I agree, replacing the stone with a hand weapon is not the cleverest idea, but the hand weapon could be say a stick, or something, that has about 5% damage?

Thanks for your suggestions.

It is soo easy to dodge rocks.. If you got hit, you must've been standing still staring at him.

Civis are fine as they are atm.
