When I installed v.8, it started crashing to the desktop during gameplay. There are no errors, and I know my pc is not overheating (used speedfan to check temps).
PR v.809
Intel E6750 - 2.66GHz Dual Core
Asus P5K SE
OCZ SLI PC6400 DDR2 800MHz - 4096MB (2 x 1G) (3.25 Recognized)
550V - +12V = 32A
nVidea 8800GT Super Clocked
XP Professional 32 Bit

I keep getting CTDs as well....PR 0.75 only rarely crashed. My machine is deffo not overheating...and it is deffo powerful enough, etc. It seems very random during rounds, and as maxudskin said, there are no errors with the CTD...just back to desktop
any suggestions?

same thing with me. I get random CTD. with .75 it happened maybe once every 25 plays, with this it happens on almost all plays. oh and BTW, I am running at 1280X960 at full graphic settings. so the resolution bug does not apply

I just CTD'd out of battlearena Korengal like 5 minutes ago...I barely ever CTD'd before and I've been playing since early .5
I have a powerhouse PC and I actually just formatted my drive 2 days ago....gotta be a .8 issue.

Try to let PR/BF2 only run on one of your CPU cores. That should fix your CTD problems

Crash Mid Game Poss Soultion

I have had the same problem it kept happening yesterday i tried all the resoultions above the 800 x 600 thing but nothing worked.
However i came on this morning and did a quick local game and realized that the optimize shaders which didnt happen when i joined an online server straight after changing video settings.
So try first changing to above 800 x 600 then once all the video has been changed goto deployment and create local (do not go online yet) and go on any map (i did the city one) it will say optimizing shaders then from then on you can go on online servers and it should not crash never crashed mid game for me (yet).
If it does not work please dont have a go at me just a possible soultion.Patch soon hopefully i hope.
Jim

jimw93 was there anything else you did/changed before loading the map? as i followed your steps but am not getting the optimizing shaders message... Im changing my video settings then creating a local game and entering the maps via my created local server...anything more you can think of that you did?

no offense but this 0.8 is the worst PR ive played so far, and its not only the midgame crash, the militia weapons is fuc*ed up to put it nice.
the iron sights on the ak47 is not even visible at a prone/crouch position, only got like 1mm on each side, like the "walls" of the mouth irons... the pin just aint there.
the new bleed? well when i jump 2meters down from a building irl, i dont bleed all over my face and start fainting. you might twist your foot thats it, but your face doesnt start bleeding of takin a jump, landing on the feet. Utterly retarded?
i played that new valley map, and i seriously didnt feel the PR about it. It was 100% random map, random lonewolf enemies all over, charging about BF2 classic style. I really didnt enjoy it. Maybe its semi shit for me, but the crashes just makes it worthless to even open atm.

Do you guys play in windowed mode? If not then there won't be error messages. Please try to run the game in windowed mode for some time.

Many people are having this issue, and it's not the resolution-related crash. It's the Debug Assertion Error, or something like that. It's a pretty easy thing to fix, you just have to create a few folders and extract a few files, but I don't know the specifics. A guy's post in PR Hardware and Support explains it exactly; it's because of him I can now play 0.8. I think the post is something like "Crash upon Deployment Bug: FIXEd!!!!"

hmmm well i run vista 64 bit so thought that might be the crash problem...so i selected 'windows xp SP2 compatibility mode' and managed to play a whole round without a crash (on operation baracuda) but then it CTDed whilst loading the next map (operation archer)...man i cant believe how frequent these CTDs are...I only got about 3 the whole time I played 0.75...
thanks Irish Freedom...I will have a look at "Crash upon Deployment Bug: FIXEd!!!!" to see if it helps...

1. Everyone crashes simultaneously on the same server.
It's happening on all the servers. Usually, the screen freezes & things float/ drift across the screen for an indefinite amount of time - either permanently or for several minutes. Then, the connection is lost for most, if not all, people playing on the server.
2. The game simply cuts out during or at the end of a round.
3. I get kicked by PunkBuster soon after loading a map or when I start playing on a server - something having to do with 'Handshake Failure' or 'Failure/ Failed to Shake Hands.'
Also:
a. I like the new ironsight animations but the iron sights are a bit too small even on my 21" screen.
b. Face shouldn't get bloody from hurting some other part of the body. Maybe vary the blood splatter effects, too, in first person. It kinda looks silly IMO. It is also relatively too blinding considering some smaller types of injuries.
c. Running stamina has been reduced too much. I'd like it if the character had several seconds for a top speed burst and then gradually slow down with the onset of fatigue. The running speed should be relative to amount of rest - not all or nothing.

select XP SP2 compatibility mode for PR I found that fixed the in-game CTDs for me and I have very similar specs to you. now just to work on the loading CTDs
