Waypoints?

I was playing PRMM earlier today, strolling along with my squad, i set a place for the rest of "Mic sqaud" to meet up and assualt an enemy position, that was all very good... it then just popped into my mind while setting the meeting point, " oooo waypoints now that would be useful! "
( for those who dont know what waypoints are, you mark a path on your map for your squad to follow, it's very useful in Urban enviroments as you can set a precise path so your sqaud doesn't run into any big problems, although they can be used in any situation.)
If anyones every played the earlier ghost recon games, or any Tom Clancy shooter to be honest, i was thinking that kinda thing, maybe not the zulu go codes and what not....

I just think it would bring another important and useful element to the squad based play, just an idea.

way points would be a good thing. Noramly what i do for exsample i had 1 of the guys in my squad flying the little bird on oman. I told him to attack the hotel. So he flys right dirctly the shotest rout towards it which we all know is surcide (silly pilot). So i posted him a move cornated on the map, when he got there or near it i gave him anouth, and anouther till he was fianly behind the point so he could drop us off to flank. Last point i put where he was ment to set us down he flew strait over and placed us right onto of the flag which wasnt the best idea in the world as the enemy can all see this and means we cant move on the point while shooting. But anyways we capped the flag as lucky all the enemys where between the rock fort and hote.

Yes, waypoints are a great idea. Hell I'm surprised nobodies ever thought of something this basic and essential. I could have really used them one game because I was ordering my squad to do a unorthidox flank. When I told them to go where I wanted them they were very confused because it was basically going right by the flag we had to cap and moving past it. It was the only non-obvious way that I could think of to get the flank from the rear. They ended up attacking the flag head on in confusion and they all died, luckily I got where I wanted to and then explained to my confused squad the way we were going. At the time I only could do this with text so waypoints would have saved us tons of time and grief.

There is probably no way point since they figured you could use the comma rose arrow and tell your squad to go there, then have them move to another point once they have reached that one. The Ghost Recon ones were mostly becasue you had to work with AI I think, but it is still a good idea if you want your squad to work a little more indepently from all your commands.

Maybe have a circle at each point you want them to stop at too so they can scan their sectors for enemies etc. and then move on. The waypoints would be really good for pilots in choppers since you cant tell them to go around, but it might only change ground combat some.

Even if it doesn't make a huge impact, it is still a good idea to add more commands to the game so you can interact with your squad more.

Was there ever any conclusion to this? Can it be done? Sorry to bump an old topic, but hey, at least I UTFSEd, right?

This would be very useful in urban environments, especially if the SL had a way to "release" each waypoint as he wanted his squad to move on to the next one.

Yeah I always thought about this but I never posted, sorry. I have played ghost Recon and set waypoints all over. Not sure if it possible by the engine. but it will very usefull once you have built up squad before the battle begins.
