.8 impressions (so far)

Ok well we all know what happens when a new version of PR is released, the noob-lets come and its a bit hecktic for the first few weeks. That aside I was kinda wondering what everyones first impressions of .8 was. Ive played a few round so far since Ive downloaded it I got to say allot of things are very impressing. The new USMC skins are just awesome I'd like to say, as is the US Army and PLA skins. The new weapons for the US Army are of course awesome like the M16A4, They seem to work pretty well ingame and the red-dot scope makes for a hell of a diffrence on maps like Rameil. The new M16A4/M4 with the M203 is also very sleek and sexy looking, and with that Acog scope it makes you're job as a riflemen allot more easier then those old iron sights. The new animations are also, as every one knows, badass. They took a little getting used to Ill admit but they are still very cool. The new details on the L85's are also very nice and feel more "natural" this is the case with most of the other weapons. The new SAW is also a work of art, my only gripe with that is that it takes so long to take out, perhaps the animations could be sped up or somthing?

All of the new maps are simply superb, I have to say that they are all very well made, very immersive and just down right fun. My personal favourite now is Rameil, its basically the AL Basrah feel with a larger city and the US Army, My thanks go out to okita and all the others who worked on that map because to me I think its even better then Al Basrah.

The new "restraints" on the insurgency are also a very nice addition, making it more immersive instead of just running around shanking civi's. The new insugent hideouts are a nice addition also, but I feel its not enough, they are allready undergunned, having only up to 4 other spawn points besides the mosques or palace is just not enough or fair to them, thats one of the easiest things about being an insurgent in .7 you could move around easily and spawn near caches because of all the random RP's, Id like to see this back in a patch or somthing of that nature. The SKS for insurgents is a great weapon now, you can see down the sights clearly, the bayonet makes it really cool, the only thing is his IED is damn near useless..the damage on it should be increased or he should get 2 and remove the RDG3 grenade. The "heavy" insurgent should carry 2 of the RDG3 grenades instead of the ambusher carrying one of the IED's and then the RDG3. The only other problem with the insurgents is that the AK47 irons...well...you cant really see down them...I dont know if this is how they really are but the way they are ingame makes me despise the AK47 even more.

Some other things Ive seen and heard people say really botherd me to, like the sprint, its be nerfed to the point that its useless, its really slow and takes forever to recharge, it should be made faster or at least recharge faster cause as of right now from everyone ive heard its just annoying. Ive also heard that your RP's will die if the enemy is within 50 meters...whats that about?? I personally think thats gonna kill some of the fun factor cause everyone remembers in .6 and .7 how epic an RP vs RP battle can get, and that was one of the best things about it. If this thing about the RP's is true please change it, not to sound like a **** but I just feel its completely ridiculous.

I havent found anything really buggy except the CTD on 800x600(?) and the molatov, I used it on al basrah today and the fire didnt appear, but it was still there because friendlies ran into it and died but there was also no tk message so Im not quite sure what happend.

Ok, Im done ranting now.
All in all I think you dev's did a great job on this version but some things from .7 should have stayed the same in .8. I thank all of you dev's for putting such hard work and effort into the mod and hope to more of the same in versions to come.

Funny because the new models and rally point changes are pretty much the only new things I like. :\

Damn, such a short comment but those are really my only impressions. I guess I could go into detail on why I don't like the changes but it's pretty obvious and most have been said a million times.

A bug or two on two of the maps I've played. I can't join a training game mode(still havn't figured it out), but overall it's a good way to kill time.

I won't point out what I like since that would take forever but 2 initial things I'm not too fond of are the "queasy drunk" animations when you switch weapons/use bayonet. The other thing is the AK is really difficult to use now. Very inaccurate even on single shot. I don't know if the recoil/accuracy levels reflect reality or not but yeah AK isn't nearly as effective for me. Still not sure how I feel about the scoped weapon ready time. The iron sited weapon ready time is perfect though. Feels right. It's also interesting how you can't fire the SKS as fast as you can hit the mouse anymore. You have to wait for the chamber animation to finish before you can fire again. I think it's a cool touch. If you hit the mouse too quick it is actually slower than if you time the clicks only when it can fire.

I agree that the sprint needs to be increased some and i also think the the time it takes to get to yours sight is a bit much. I havent really had the opportunity to really play without my PC getting in the way so thats all i have to say for now.

thats the only changes i didnt like on 0.8 :( the rally points idea is good if they 10 meters but if they 50 meters you almost have no chance to keep it up, especally that you need to wait time after it "overrun"
about the ak47 i didnt fight with that yet so i cant tell anything about it

I got used to the new frag nades pretty quiclky its just as easy to throw them on target now

I'd disagree there because the new way is more realistic imo, especially with the rally point dynamics.

US squad sweeps the city without encountering the enemy, all the rally points that were there are now destroyed, that part of the city has been secured barring new enemy reinforcements. If the insurgents want to spawn in areas that have been secured, they have to get a hideout up (which is so easy that I'd like their location be be included in intel now lol) once the city has been cleared of rallies and hideouts have not been put up, you have to use vehicles back at main to get around....which is far more realistic than the rally points in 0.7.

I really like the new bleeding animation.. .took a sniper hit from a farrrr away mountain, was looking at the guy, saw the tracer come in and man i FELT that hit me haha. The new blood looks awesome.

Overall I like the changes. I would just like to see the bleed reduced to 50% instead of 75%... Especially if your insurgent. Also, what's with the bloody caves on Korengal Valley, I can barely get out of those without bleeding because of the amazingly dangerous 6 foot drops i have to make. As neddle once said: "coz im a soldier and I can't climb"

i love it, playing on Korengal Valley is amazing for me. makes the map that much better when you play with a good SL.

i don't like the rally point changes... much preferred hunting down an enemy rp! much more fun then just wandering bye and poof like magic its gone.

i personally cannot fault this release, the maps are quite simply pieces of art tbh.

the medic changes for me are quality, as well as the animations make this release the best to date.

Like the size of the maps!

Hate the area you can capture flags, its far to wide, you can be miles away and take it.

Agree with the sprints, these are supposed fit soldiers and they can still run with full kit further than an asthmatic Ant with shopping…..

Hate the whole Commander thing, how do you build now? We commanders –well I try need to feel useful and have toys to play with.

Plus when you’re a grunt you simply get killed trying to build outposts etc when they explode mid build….when you build a house do they explode……..no they don’t.

commanders command. grunts build. commander never (or shouldn't!) build a firebase himself anyways

as far as the RP changes go...

i think the new rules are necessary, especially since maps like muttrah and ramiel have thousands of hiding places. can you imagine trying to take down an RP on one of those new muttrah buildings with 3-4 levels of balconies? it would be damn near impossible. the nature of RPs has changed, and i think it's a good thing.

you can no longer put offensive minded RPs down in contested areas and expect them to last. the RP is supposed to be the staging point for your squad, and having one in a contested area isnt very realistic. all you have to do is keep them a few hundred meters away from the action and they can easily last a long time. if you want to have a base of operations in a contested area, the forward base is your best option, by far.

.8 is so freaking awesome i cant believe it!

i love it all...sept im still adjusting to the new ballsitics and scope in time

once u get used to something in .8 u love it
