Starting PR in Steam

I like to throw all my games in steam simply because it's easy to be able to chat with friends, and it lets everyone know what game I'm playing, but for whatever reason I can't get PR to work in steam, I'm guessing because it's a non-valve related mod, but if anyone knows what to do let me in on it!

Plus it will allow people who join the PR steam group to meet up easier.

The problem I get when I try to add the PR shortcut is it says the BF2.exe does not exist.

You can run it in Steam with the following settings, where XXX is your install directory:

Target
"C:\XXX\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +restart

Start In
"C:\XXX\Battlefield 2\"

If You want to chat with friends and let them know what game you are playing atm use Xfire - Gaming Simplified

I'm doing the same thing, and this problem always come when u put it in to steam. This is what you do: Go to your BF2 folder, make a shortcut to your BF2.exe (NOT PR). now move the shortcut to your deskop and right click propeties. Then copy what it say in the START IN, after u copy u eneter steam right click on PR and go to propeties again, paste it in at the START IN and then it should work.

Sorry for my bad english

Trouble is, the ONLY way to run PR without getting kicked by shader checks is to run via PR.exe.

Loading the game through xFire, Steam or via the vBF2 "Community" tab will see you kicked from PR shaders.

Load the game from PR.exe always.

You can get steam to run it from PR.exe.

The best way to do it imo is to go to 'add a non steam game', click 'browse' and navigate to pr.exe. Add that to the list, right click -> properties, change the name to 'Project Reality', change the 'start in' to the battlefield 2 folder, and add any command line arguments you want (e.g. widescreen resolutions etc.)

That way it won't interfere with having vanilla on the list, and it uses the PR icon for it.

Since xfire doesn't have a 'run in' option, it's harder to get it to work - but you can probably give it a shortcut or a .bat file. The problem with that approach is that joining servers from xfire won't work correctly.

Change the "Start in" line to be the Battlefield 2 folder, if that doesn't work, copy and paste PR.exe into the Battlefield 2 folder and select that, works a charm.

If you edit the "Target" box in Steam's external game launcher, make sure that there is no extra characters hidden outside the viewable area. When you copy-paste text to these boxes, always delete the previous content entirely before pasting new.

I know this sounds weird, but you have to go to steam and run that as Admin on Vista. Then it should work.

Admin rights are not needed to run PR or any other BF2(142) mod I'm aware of in Vista. All what is needed is:
- PunkBuster runs as a service
- User account used to play the game have read and write access to '<BF2 install dir>\mods' directory
