Ok guys , i have been having lots of problems with vista and i am refusing to reinstall xp , one of the biggest problems with vista for lag and the memory problem when loading new maps , it all seems to be caused by the way vista uses your memory up , to seem smart vista uses super repfetch , which looks at the most used programs and loads then into memory , so no matter how much memory you have vista will use it , which is all very well untill you try and load a large chunck of info , if map change etc, so to make vista run more like xp , we can disable superfetch altogether by

In the "start search box " type , services.msc.

then

Double-click on Superfetch in the list to open up the properties, and then change the drop-down to "Disabled". You can also click Stop to immediately turn it off.

and thats it , no more problems , or less anyways!

Why, when Vista dumps all the superfetch stuff out of the memory as soon as a programme like BF2 starts hogging a whole bunch of resoucrs?

some times iy is not fast enough in dumping the memory , if bf2 requests it fast , it will throw an out of memory error , happens to me on every map chage saying i dont have enough memory , and i have 4 gb , but since disabling this service worked 100% of the time

disabling superfetch isn't really neccessary.
I have it on and no problems. Neither lag nor ctd.

I have same problems as you had. Maybe I should try your workaround.
But Im not happy with disabling Superfetch.
