Forcast calls for sunny weather for the rest of the war.
Bullsh*t !! My troops are out there fighting for their lives in a dust storm that kicked up about an hour ago and they can't see sh

t.
We need real weather out there fellas and we need it now. I wish that EA and Dice would implement this feature because it is a real part of going to war and sometimes it changes how things get done out there.
Our troops have to deal with dust storms, rain, wind (Blowing Debris) and a host of other fun things. The weather isn't sunny and mild out on the battlefield every day.
If anyone needs to see just how weather affects gameplay take a look at the game coming out titled S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Superbly Done)
I don't know if it can be implemented in a mod without it being in the original game but I would most definatly like to have to plan my ariel assault based on low clouds and poor visablility.
My 2 Cents

I am not sure it will be possible with the BF2 engine. I've also found that weather lags some of the online games I've played with it. They had a pretty bad net code though

Please don't make the "weather" like AA where all they did is add fog so you can only see 50 yards.

Would rock for sure. Imagin loading a map and getting the current forcast as you are loading. Depending on the maps climate would depend on the chance for certain conditions. The replay value of each map would be HUGE! Wish it could work...

Just make a rainy looking sky box, grey fog. And have giant clear meshes(not sure if thats right) with raindrops in them fall from the sky. Also I think Interstate did rain in there Tsunami map.

Second Reality, thnx for the post on that, enviornment is something which I hold in the highest regard when it comes to a game engine; second only to gameplay and sounds, we will be looking down every anvenue which the new engine provides us, and if I have my way (engine allowing) we may yet get you those early morning showers, *possibly followed by afternoon gail force winds, which at times are possible of knocking down powerlines and blowing off items which are not fastend to the ground.
Note: Anything stated after the * is 99%
unlikley to occur even with the new BF2 engine. But hey wishful thinking for the future
However as always, everything is speculation until its posted on the front page of our site. We will all have to wait and see.

a weather forcast as the map loads. That would be sweet. Cool idea. Mud and such could bog down tanks, bad weather limit air support. If it were possible it would add a lot to the game. I could see the flyboys ditching a server for one with better weather though, lol.

Heck no man, I'd luv to hav weather effects added in, I can just imagine making a rapid drop, coming in low using the fog as cover, to drop in a SF team with a Blackhawk, or hiding low in the gulleys, using that freshly blown in dust storm to cover the approach of my Cobra as I sneak in on an enemy armoured column

not to mention the SF teams creeping into a point, emerging from the fog all around the the city... and a HALO drop onto the point.
The possibilities would be endless

And so would lag unless its optomized...
But yeah weather would be nice, though the chances of all those awsome teamwork scenarios are slim, it might be nice on the rare ocasions that they happen. Of course this will all apear silly and out of place if apropriate skins are not included. IE a wet soldier skin for rain maps, and dusty ones for the sand storms. Equipment as well. And static objects. As you can see its not just a matter of adding rain to the map, you have to have everything else to go with it. Unless you want dry soldiers running around in a downpour.

picture this.
your in the middle of spawn when u hear it. a tank rolling towards u. you look all around and u cant find it. u decide to hide until u find it. finally it rolls in and you can see it. due to the rain it cant see u. knowing ur planes are in the air you decide to laser target it. u hear the plane coming the tank does too. it starts to move and BOOM!!! no more tank.
Weather would be awsome great idea.

The Action Battlefield mod for BF1942 acheived putting weather into a map.
http://www.planetbattlefield.com/actionbf/
Check out the map ABF Repel it features what they call the WeatherFX system.
If it was done on BF1942, I sure hope it can be done for BF2.

How does it handle lag-wise, especially over the net??

here's some weather effects that would be neat to have. i'm also a bit sick of the sunny deal.
rain-thunder storms-lightning
sand storms-fog
snow-blizzards
a lot of stuff that can be done. guess we'll see if bf2 actually has any

You can make weather effects with some coding, FH has done it....and some DC maps have them (Public creators).

Could you take a big mesh(the size of the map), and skin rain drops into it. Then have them spawn one after another from way up in the sky. Add some nice rain sounds that cover the entire map, an apropriate sky box and lighting.. as well as some wet skins(for the vehicles and soldiers as well as statics.
Problem: Meshes go through everything, that means that it would be raining inside of vehicles and houses.
But could that whole negative geometry(suggested for blowing up walls) be used so that when this rain mesh hit a house or a car it simply disapears.
I dont know how laggy this would be, if at all. But if it can be done Id say its worth a try.

It could be done...I wish I knew how, but yes, it can be done, but it could be laggy......and this game will already take alot out of some PC's....so you better have a fast PC if you want the weather effects.....
