hello everyone !
i have a small question that i have been wondering about for a while now . basically , if i raised my video options in PR , will my pings go higher ? or will it just be the same ?

just to explain abit more , i got stuff on low and medium , even tho i can handle High , and with my current settings , im getting (Depends on the server) lets say 180 , if i raise my settings to High , will they go over that (pings) ?

thanks in advance :D

AFAIK, graphics settings do not effect ping.

Your graphics options won't affect your ping.

Ping is to do with how quickly your internet can send information and it is in Milliseconds IIRC (of course I could be barking up the complete wrong tree :p ) And no your ping will not be at all affected by graphics change.

You will get what appears to be a bad lag, although other players will not see you lagging.
As a good example, try playing a game that is well beyond what your computer is capable of with everything set to max. It will lag like hell even in single player as you graphics card trys to render each frame at the speed you are, say spining around and running etc.
You will also see other players appear to be lagging as your graphics card /proccessor / ram is trying to keep up with what they are doing as well.
The best guide I could suggest is to download 'fraps' and try to set your graphics to a point where fraps is showing a minimum of no lower than 30 fps when there is a lot of action on screen.
Hope this helps.

raising the graphics settings in game will not increase your ping. basically there are two different types of lag, graphics and internet related. graphics lag occurs when your ingame graphics settings are too high for your computer to handle. basically your computer cant render the graphics fast enough to keep up with the game. so when you shoot with maxed out settings which your computer cant handle, your game will 'lag' which will make 'your' computer run slower then the game is moving which will in affect give you the same experience as if your ping was really high.
internet related lag is when your internet connection is too slow to keep up with the game. you could have the most amazing top of the range computer money can buy, but your slow internet connection could lag you out as bad as the worst graphics lag.
so you need to try and find the the balance of settings to give you the best looking gameplay but also the most efficient framerate.

but to answer your question a bit better.. it seems your ping is pretty high already..
"180 depending on the server" to quote you exactly. which means the lag you experience (if you get any at all) will be due to your internet connection. so you have two options. either join a server that is geographically closer to where you live, or get a new internet service provider with a faster plan.

it seems if your computer is able to handle high settings then you shouldnt be lagging at all.

yea i know all of that guys :)
the whole question was that i thought that if i raised the bar up , well basically im gonna need to transfer higher detailed files from the server , i know the map is loaded from my computer .. no probs now , i got the picture :)

@ justman2005 :
about ur pings thing , i know theyr abit too high , but my ISP is what i can pay for :)
and when i had my settings on low with that range or pings or higher , i never had any lag :D

AFAIK it will have an effect (tiny). With my older computer and games like q1 and q2 the players with most cpu power would have lower pings (1-8 lower), as even at single player game I could not get lower than 8 ping, meaning, when people online would be playing with pings like 2.

But no, you prolly don't see the difference with BF2 as it don't tell your ping in singleplayer or states it as zero which is not true.

im fairly sure that the server sends all the files needed to display the game in high graphics settings, its just your computer that decides if it wants to render it or not. could someone verify? interested to know.

needless to say i would just stick with your current settings, or do the old reliable things like check if your drivers are up to date bla bla bla.

no lag on low settings is better then lag on higher settings. and on lower settings you can usually see more then a person with higher settings in most situations.. i.e without HDR lighting or high lightmaps you can see people hiding in the shadows when they think they are out of sight.

All the server does is sending the position of the in game objects (players, vehicles, projectiles).

The actual rendering is done on the client side based on the data received from the server.

Wrong. As Deadfast says; all the textures and models are already on your PC. The server just tells your PC how to put them all together based on what's happening on your PC and on the other PCs in the game.

Clever things, these computers.
