UPDATE to PR v0.856
As far as we know the mappers haven't used real locations for each map. Nevertheless one can try to assign the maps to "real-life" landscapes and areas.
Take a closer look at the areas in Google Map by clicking on the map-picture above.

Very Cool, and most PR maps are real places as this shows. Someone else did the same thing and really showed the maps and bases one some maps.

I recall a dev posting reference pics of Muttrah, as it was a real city, and modeled to the T.
Not sure what city though

Sometimes I wonder what the residents of Muttrah think about us fighting in their city

Fear thats cool, I did notice this myself a while for a few maps. Recently someone complained about road to Kyonygni but we found the real location there from the korean war. I believe the same mapper based his other map hils of h on a korean battle also
Ages ago I looked up Muttrah and noticed they were pretty strong allies of Nato, one of the launch pads for initial Afghanistan operations, armed forces links to Britain and fly old RAF jet models, etc Basically MEC would be invaders there much like the first gulf war
I think its great the PR mosque model is right there by the real picture, shows a real likeness
Last 6 seconds of this video is a quick zoom in from outer space using google maps in Al Kufrah Oilfields, Libya which does look similar imo though more of a compact refinery:
YouTube - Al Kufrah Oilfields, Libya___________Project Reality
I never thought EJOD could be a real place, dam and Operation Archer is a real mission afaik, not sure about the terrain it would be hard to place I should think
Operation Pheonix also shows up, probably others too though I have not looked for any other actual likenesses
Also if you do record a video of a particular map and upload it to youtube, because they are part of google you can specify the location on the statistics tab on the same screen and zoom in from there

Only 3 of the China maps are actually in China?
Especially considering Sunset City's map description, I'd think it would be somewhere in China itself.

Thats globalisation for you. Its quite reasonable to have major powers fighting in foreign countries, many wars have been fought with the backing of the superpowers in an indirect cold war

Except this is a direct hot war. And I thought the US was invading China (they were in BF2).
