Disappointed my first time.

I am a noob at BF2. I kept getting killed all the time and I can't kill anyone. So I wanted to give PR a try. I did a training mission so I can get used to it. I kept getting killed as soon as I spawned. Players were sniping me as soon as I appeared. Eventually I spawned somewhere else. I came upon a tank and tried to get in. I had to climb the damn thing and enter in the open hatch. I got blown up after a few minutes by an A-10. I tried another tank in a different spot and the hatch was closed. I kept hitting the E-key all over the tank and could never get in. I just gave up and haven't gone back.

Read the manual and all your problems will be gone

But ya the abrams is a pain to get in because you have to spend 2 minutes jumping on it.

Well, when you download PR, theres a thing called a 'Manual', read it, you tried entering your enemies tank, which you can't, only your own factions tank, also did you have a crewman kit, again, by reading the manual you would have known this.

Meh.

-Dude, don't spawn with the Officer's Kit unless you are a Squad Leader and have 3 Squad Members.

training servers aren't working as intended atm, its a spamfest

read the manual a little, and join a low population training server, if baserape is occuring, just forget it and join a normal server.

Here is some advice from an old timer.... dont be put of by the tits who scream RTFM

Start simple.. play as a grunt, foot solider, this is the most important role in PR anyway. Get the feel of the game on foot. Just use the default kits, at least for the 1st few rounds. Rifleman is what you should play as.

When you first start, DON'T spawn in right in the action. Spawn where it is likely to be safe. Get your feet and bearings. This game relies A LOT on you having good understanding of what is going on, from what direction etc. The leet killing skills needed in BF2 are not needed in PR. I've had some of my funnest rounds without killing a soul!

Try and find a good and understanding Squad Leader, who can help you get to grips with what is going on around you, stay close to your squad at all times.

Also before you start messing around with tanks.. make a local training server and get to grips with the basics before you go online.

You are very welcome on our servers.. Tactics & Teamwork (see my sig) newbies are always welcome... but please bare in mind we are not a training server... please do that on a 'training server'.

Good luck.. and dont give up.. its a cracking good fps game with a great teamwork based community. :)

Well said tommy...you relay must start small i.e being a rifleman. Avoid tanks, helis and planes at first...if you crash a chopper full of dudes you'll probly be ripped for it, the same for a plane and tank, they are very precious in this game and have long spawn times.

Use the training servers to learn the maps/kits/toys to play with/feel. I'd join a empty training server to learn to fly (after reading the manual, or you will die...trust me i learnt the hard way) but you must bare in mind that the training servers respawn the toys very fast and there are praticlay no kit limatations. I've heard a few cases of people moaning that the tanks don't respawn instantly like on the training.

Also, don't be afraid to ask for help, you'll more than likely get some sarcastic comments, but some of the PR players do that. You'll find someone willing to help you out a bit. Just say like "hey, i'm a learning player, do any of you SL (squadleaders btw) mind taking in a noob?" Someone will say ok and help you out.

If you need help i'll be happy to help you out! :-)

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. I'll give it another try. I didn't see the manual to read. I did go to the guide on this website and read it. I didn't see a section on what keys to use for entering things. I believe it is still the "E" key. Yes, it is hard to jump on the tanks. I just have to get used to the realism in this game and remember it's not BF2 vanilla where you can hide or ride quickly.

yes E is the default key for entering vehicles.
Also, if you get shot right after you spawn, then DO NOT spawn again at the same spot since it's very likely that you will get killed again. There are almost always other spawn points, so choose one that is safe.

Also, like tommy said, find a good squad leader. Try to join squads named voip or teamwork or stuff like that. (though make sure that you do have a mic if you join a voip one) Just tell them that you are new and you don't know everything and they will help you out.

You get the manual PDF in your desktop when you install the mod. You can also download it here:

User Guides - Project Reality Guide

Online training servers are more about getting used to the vehicles and stuff, but if people are just flying around killing each other instead of actually training on the targets, it doesn't make any sense. Just join another training server or start your own local training.

Once you read the manual and get the grips on the fundamental things you will feel more confortable in joining the public servers. Don't think the game is what you experimented that day...

Get yourself a microphone if you don't have one. Comms are very important in PR if you wanna have a good game. If you're in a squad where everybody is spread out, nobody is using VoIP and the squad leader isn't leading - switch squad.

Like said; start playing as a rifleman in a good squad and listen to your squadleader, and also stay in close promixity with the squad. Try to pay attention to what the others are doing and adjust yourself to the tactical situation. There's a term called "situational awareness", which is self-explanatory and very useful on the battlefield.

I also recommend you and everybody else to learn a bit about tactics and strategy. It makes everything so much easier, fun and effective. There are a few guides here on the forums, but what I recommend the most is dslyexcis tactical guide which you can find here. Yeah, it pretty long and hardcore, and also written for another game. But it still works for PR, and you don't have to read everything in there (you'll find what's essential).

Good luck and have fun in PR! :D

im agree with rudd, training servers have been used it not specifically to improve their training but to do spawn killing and bother other players, now after read the manual to get a general idea of what you have to do, try to join a insurgency map avoid maps like kashan desert (imo is an armor vehicle map) to know how to move wih your squad and get use to the weapons, dont quit! good luck.

I'm sorry you had a bad first experience, but this statement maybe indicates you should have some practice in Vanilla first. I'm not saying you need to be extremely skilled to play PR, but it's definately a lot more tactical and challenging than Vanilla. This quote hints that you maybe not yet ready for PR yet, but if you follow the advice in this thread you will get into it.

imo, it could be better if he learned the PR system first. Then those annoying vanilla habits wouldn't start. Also, control wise both are the same, so it would be much better to start with PR.

I'd also say BF2 isnt the best way to train for PR. Actually, games like rainbow six (in coop) have more to do with PR than BF2 does, simply because of the importance of teamwork.

Don't give up, I think if you give it some time you will not go back to BF2 again. I have a group of guys I play with that all have top of the line computers and PS3's and we run this mod like tis going out of style because the game play is like nothing out there in the muliplayer gaming community.

Play as a grunt first. Get used to the feel of things.

Get into a good squad with a squad leader who sounds like he knows what hes doing. Explain that your new to the mod but eager to learn. Chances are you will have a good time and learn alot :)

Here is a video example of a good squad leader / squad:

Welcome to Project Reality, Chevy! Don't feel too bad for not having read the manual: most people don't read them these days. However, the level of complexity in this game makes it absolutely essential. Here's the rest of my advice for you:

Stay away from the training servers. Instead, create your own training mode (go to "Training", "Create Local" in PR) to practice with the various kits that are available. Get a general feel for how the game is played (rifle control/accuracy, switching weapons, using various grenades, mines, AT launchers, etc.) and familiarize yourself with the interface.

When you're comfortable and ready to go, get into a game with a reasonable ping and a good population of players (I would suggest not playing on a server currently running an Insurgency map until you get a feel for how a regular army plays). Anything playing Muttrah City is likely a good choice, as you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding some action, and the urban environment might help you maintain your bearings.

Be patient. The fact is that Project Reality has a very steep learning curve. The first few times you play you will probably find yourself performing two actions: Walking and dying. Death comes instantly, and often with no warning. Sometimes all you want to do is run in and get some trigger time, but you'll find yourself needing to hike halfway across the map juts to reach an objective, where you will immediately be killed. You will get very frustrated. The game will become less confusing with time. Be patient.

Use your head. Do you best to maintain situational awareness. Pull out your map often. Ask yourself "Where am I? Where are my allies? Where is the enemy likely to be? Where is it best that I be?" After every battle, no matter the outcome, review your actions and take note of what worked and what failed. This is a thinking man's shooter: 9 out of 10 times the outcome of a firefight is determined before the first shot is even fired, because one team put themselves in the position to win.

So welcome to Project Reality. Be patient, use your head, and remember that it's just a game (even though a lot of people seem to have forgotten that). Have fun, and good luck.

get used to guns and squads first then you will get a feel for the game, and how it works, bf2 is a free for all pr is team work ,pr is a very hard game even for us guys that have been playing a long time we can have maps were we just get shoot all the time ,give it time :)
