like hat deviation zoom i assume, to tell when deviation is settled (isnt the breath hold for this?)

there already is a breathing audio cue on 3... but maybe you're deaf? ;x

I think that'd make sniping too easy. The breathing is a good thing, but some people say it doesn't work though.

I think the breath hold is for after you went prone or move beyond a certain angle. In between shots the settle time is less than 8 sec. more like 3 ?

breathing is just for moving your body, his suggestion would make it so that you could see how moving your scope around affects your accuracy. Also, thanks for editing the post. It's much easier to understand now. :)

But no, I do not think the snipers need this. The more skill it requires to use this kit the better. (since the kit is AWESOME if you can use it properly)

I agree with Mammikoura. Sniping should require some skill.

To my knowledge. Breathing just plays a 8 second long audio file, nothing more, there is no magic accuracy button, just a sound to let you know that you have maximum accuracy after holding still for the duration of the sound

It's a good idea, but after sniping on Rameil yesterday I think things are fine for now

Well it could maybe use some sort of meter that shows when your gun is settled just like HAT has now but then somewhere in the corner of your screen. I mean irl you should know when your ready, not just guess i think my gun is settled now.. This can also be done with all guns imo.

Every time you move your scope doesn't mean you have to reset yourself and if you go from standing to phrone or make a quick 180 turn, then you have to reset your self. I remeber seeing a divation thing for all the wepons somewhere.

How Sniper deviation works (basic):

Moving around, quick spins etc - Heavy deviation, get prone and wait a bit to get your accuracy up.

Slight Crosshair movement - Low deviation, you can use this to track targets that only move very little. If you are at 8 seconds, and the target steps one step away, you can move your mouse slowly over the target to compensate, just wait a second or two and you can fire.

After shot - Medium, wait about 4 seconds before firing.

This is what I understand from the deviation information I have read, I have actually not attempted sniping in v0.8, so take this with a grain of salt as to the timings.

During .8 development, we had a deviation indicator in the hud. It worked great, except that a cheezy hud indicator wasn't exactly in the spirit of realism so the breathing sound was added to the sniper as a prototype.

We're not crazy about the idea of a green/red light indicator so we're looking at other ideas such as simulated scope sway that settles down parallel to your cone of fire so that once you have perfect aim, your scope stops moving. There are bugs with that approach (it's dependent on whether you move/stop/scope or move/scope/stop) so it's not a completely reliable system.

could you not have an animation the plays when the scope comes up that shows it moving around, then slowing then stopping in the 8 seconds, as well as the breathing, but make the breathing repeatable?

or is hardcoding going to get mentioned and ruin all our hopes and dreams?

Leave it the way it is its fine.
If you add a visual indicator anyone and their mothers will be able to use it.

imo there is no need for this. Sniper is ok how it is now... Not everyone should be able to use this gun. And with this indicator you cant even fail a hit any more...

Get skill“s on the gun and u know when you are ready for your 1 shoot 1 kill.

Or we can have it realistic and know when we are able to shoot. Wanting the gun to be hard to use is a stupid arse excuse to make an unrealistic skill be required to use the gun. If you don't like the gun being powerful then take it out or nerf it in another way.

Also WHEN ARE THE SUGGESTION FORUMS GONNA OPEN BACK UP cause people are suggesting shit everywhere anyways and it's being allowed so what the hell?

this is a retard suggestion. i shall tell you why.

Snipers all over the world go through a great deal of training to be able to shoot long distance. shooting the rifle in itself is not difficult at short range (<400m) but the further away the target is, the more factors need to be considered and the harder the shot becomes.

now, this is a game which is aiming to be as realistic as possible whilst still being a game. this means making certain limitations on weapons and kits, because in real life (which you should try sometime) at short range you are less likley to miss, whereas at long range those chances go up. this has been implemented (very well, devs) by way of weapon deviation.

back to the "unrealistic skill"

in most other games, such as operation flashpoint, sniper elite, CoD 4, et al, there is scope sway and breathing. in ANY game with a sniper rifle that is trying to be realistic, there is no other way, without an indicator, to show when you are ready to fire, bacause unless you're lying down with a rifle in your shoulder and a scope to your eye, its just guess work.

the current system, with the breathing, is a very good way of making sniping in PR seem realistic and challenging, considering what they have to work with (BF2 engine)

it isnt not an unrealistic skill, it is waiting 8 seconds untill the breathing stops.
