I couldnt help to notice that some players do not like snipers at all. Why do you dislike having a sniper in your team ?

Most people consider them little more than lone wolves and a wasted gun who would be better off with an assault rifle on the frontlines.

Snipers are supposed to stay back, take out high value targets of opportunity (Officers etc) and relay information on enemy movements to the rest of the team.

90% of the time, they're sitting alone on the highest building they can find firing madly at everything that moves and being of minimal use to the team.

Back in the old days you used to see

* Sniperwhore, sorry, can't issue you Sniper kit. All have been taken
* Sniperwhore, here's your marksman kit.

Then, Mr. Sniperwhore would disregard whatever mission the SL had in mind, and would run off to sit on hill, ridge, rooftop, or someplace like that. He would then begin to try to get his kill score as high up as possible by shooting everything he saw. He would end up dead pretty quick, as people tended to notice a trigger happy sniper, and would often sneak up on the guy and relieve him of the kit with a quick swipe of a knife.

This is why people don't like snipers.

Don't get me wrong..but i love being a sniper but i don't play Project reality like Vanilla BF2..most of the time when im sniper im usually alongside my squad and help em out in sticky situatins or at least provide some covering fire or getting an enemies attention while my squad mates flank him...

I do however use the terrain to my advtange but most of the time when i do this..im usually near friendly forces...besides snipers shouldnt be all about killing officers like one of you said...spotting enemy targets such as tanks or apcs or troops helps your team in every single way possible because the valuble info you've given your team, then your team will know what to do!

Snipers are good and bad...it depends if you know what your doing and hope to god that you have a good sniper on your team, who doesn't think he is still playing BF2v =/

Sturrn I dont think snipers should be in an infantery squad. They need eithier to go where a sniper is needed, find a good spot in a location where they think they will be needed soon, or do recon, they shouldnt be tied down to an inf squad for that.

I was playing a round today as Chinese on Qwai River. I started out in an APC with my squad mate and we kicked up, I racked up 39 kills to 1 death. One the way back to base one time we got TOW'd by a stealth humvee and then my squad mate had to go to bed. On my own now I spawned as engineer, took one of the 4 supply trucks, drove like a madman to near the US pig farm, and proceeded to make a minefield on the Northern road out of it. After about 10 minutes of this I got bored and decided to go find the source of the sniper fire I kept hearind. Within 1 minute I had spotted a US sniper who was trying, and failing, to pick off chinese in the Government Center. I easily snuck up on his and introduced him to Mr. Ouchy (my knife) and stole his kit. For the next HOUR AND A HALF I snuck around with this kit, during which time I managed to snipe an enemy sniper while under fire from his spec-ops spotter, then evade that spec-ops, scout out their main, telling our team about armor movements and LB's taking off. The area around me started getting alitte crowded as troops starting walking on the hill I was laying on to get to Processing Facility. I started crawling away and bumped right into a medic actively looking for me (I think this was the sniper I had gotten just a few minutes ago). Once pistoling him I moved north of processing facility, set up on another hill, and told the two squads assaulting it about enemies I saw inside. During which I got 2 confirmed kills, one a headshot on a marksman, another a bleed out on an LAT soldier. After we took the flag I walked ALLLL the way over to mine, spotted a TOW humvee guarding the entrance and relayed this to a squad, which saved their life as they slammed on the breaks of their Ningin and turned off the road. I then proceeded to snipe the TOW's gunner, clearing the way for the soldiers. I lasted for another few minutes before a LB spotted me on a hill and gunned me down.

That is what the sniper is for, Recon and taking out priority targets. The reason people dislike snipers is because most of the player who take the kit don't use it the way it was intended.

Yep thats right. Theres pretty dumb snipers and marksman about as well. In Muttrah I spawned as a MEC medic in a firebase. When I spanwed a shot landed near me and I could hear the gun. It was a marksman. So I tried to spot him ( pretty dumb of me ) and when I did ( I survived cause he couldnt hit me ) I walked out of his sight and went around him.

If he was a smart player he would have guessed what I was going to do. I first looked at him with my binocs and than disapeared. What in gods name will I do next right ?

To cut this story short: I went up his building, knifed him, took his kit and took out half his squad assaulting our firebase.

The general idea about snipers is that they are these 12 year old kids that say: OMG SNIPORZ LIKE THOSE KEWL MOVIES! and waste the kit and the asset. There are good snipers out there but its a rare sight. Thats the reason why a lot of people dislike snipers.

What Usually happends to me is i make a squad, ppl join, when they spawn one guy takes a Marksman kit or Sniper kit, then leaves the squad.

And that! Pisses me off, so i have a general negative feeling towards sniping.

this is why i hate snipers:

yesterday i joined a squad, a full squad, and some guy was like "im quite new ect ect, what do you want me to do squad leader??" no response... so we waited anyways but after 2 mins of voip and text without the SL responding.. i thought , here we go. the squad leader spawned, requested sniper kit, and drove off in a boat. i was so angry i left the server.

There are snipers and snipers.
1st strategy is to kill and be avoid!
2nd strategy is to kill as many as possible taking the attention of as much enemies as you can! Why - this leaves the job easier for the rest of the team if you manage to keep busy alone a full squad or two.
In PR when you know that the sniper can be 600 m away and still manage to kill you is demoralizing the forces.

I would love to play a sniper, however all rifles i've tried have been stupidly inaccurate that it's pointless.

For example, engaging an enemy at 100m 3 shots all fired on him (stationary) missed, he hits the dirt (as I have been the whole time) and kills me with the first shot of his rifle.

For example, Enemy at 100m stationary looking through binoculars, only see shoulders and head, aim at his mouth of maximum opportunity, 2 shots, no hit.

For example, climbing a hill, enemy at top, spot each other, hit dirt, firing at each other, I miss him twice with dead on shots, APC in water (a good 3-400 meters away) has to take out the guy to save my bacon

Now, I'd be better off with a rifleman kit in all of these instances, because at least they shoot with a proper degree of accuracy. It's put me off the sniper kits, which isn't a victory - I'm very much a team player and not a poor shot.

^^ you would be better of with the rifleman kit in ALL instances since apparetly you can't use the sniper. Patience young padawan, patience.

I love the Sniper Kit´s.

But i hate the guys that use it the wrong way...

But that isn´t only a sniper kit problem...

See so many "noob´s" who request kits and don´t even know how it works...

Kill themselves with the hat and so on...

Fuzzhead can attest to my love for sniper rifles, I say what better then someone overlooking the area you are attacking giving positions on enemy squad movements!

Because centering a crosshair and clicking the mouse at 100m with a massivly scoped rifle is so difficult.

It's not even a case of scope/barrel offset - at 400m sniping down at a prone stationary target yielded poor results.

I think I've made probably 3 kills out of 5/6 stationary "easy" targets. I'd probably go as far to say that the sniper rifles -are- broken.

The M14 was unimpressive too, but I won't complain about that too much, it could do with being a *little* more accurate but it's not as disappointing as the sniper rifles i've played with. (British and American)

Ziro in v0.8 there are new rules on engagment! To fire accurate shots with sniper you have to take aim and hold your breath for 5-8 sec depends on target range that's all.
