[Vehicle] Fuel-based jet engines

These are still a huge work in progress, however the video is meant to demonstrate the concept of "fuel" I have managed to get. The cannon has a limited supply of ammunition, and the recoil provides the force to push it forward.

To be done
-Remove cannon projectiles
-Set fire-rate commands
-Set sounds

Note: I used AutoHotKey to help me with the experiment.

Hope you like it!

Note 2: I have fixed the thrust since the video. The current max speed is about 2500, instead of a potential 9 or 10 thousand.

that is pretty cool and I also enjoyed the xfire conversation :D

only issue is it takes up an important spot on the weapons, I wouldnt be too impressed with loosing my M61

You could make another slot right?
And call it fuel, and if you switch to it you can see youre fuel?

BTW, you have a movie, that shows what happends if youre out of fuel?

Hum is not suppose to be 9 weapons slot like infantry ? i mean, 1 for canon, 1 for short range missile, 1 for long range missile, 1 for LGB, 1 for FLARE, 1 for fuel ?

And if i understand what you're trying to do, you want to implent fuel in aircraft ? you know some of these can fly during 2-3 hours before need refueling ? and the average flight time in PR is 10 minutes... So is it realy needed ?

Meh not needed, a round never lasts that long and certainly a plane wont.

many of my pilots have kept the planes up a whole round at least 20 times or so. Personally my record is about 3hrs(awesome round btw :D )

choppers are my thing.

Still, it would be a nice feature to have. And it would make the noobs go berserk (how come when I hold W nothing happens?!?). Lastly, this would have to be the primary weapon for everything, so you'd have your M61 as it's own slot.

Also remember that some things in PR are scaled down. A real Kashan would be tens, if not hundreds of KM across. Also, Muttrah city is only a small sliver of the actual Muscat, Oman - and we'd need more then the Essex to take control of it.

Ok I realize the idea behind it, but would a plane really run out of fuel in 3 hours? LIke whats the shortest endurance time for the ingame aircraft?

According to this, yes.

Yeah but are you conscious all that work dont realy worth it ? Even if you keep it in the air the entire round, you will need to refuel only 1 time and at the very end of the round. And face it, most of the time the airplane is shot down, crash in mountains or crash at landing. So even if you the better even guyz who ever fly in P.R. you can't say Fuel play a major role in a 16Km²...

I keep Huey Gunship 50 Mins alive on muttrah, whole round on barracuda and hit 40 targets whit Cobra on Kashan, did i'm a super hero ? lool.

Is there even a Cobra on Kashan Mr Bigshot?

Err...yes there was, but the 32 player map was deleted from all the server rotations (if you want to make a server for it go right ahead).

@Hotrod - This system is limited to 30 minutes of fuel to make it more realistic (a real battle would go on for days) assuming you're at full power all the time. Of course, you can fly on much less since you can do it in bursts [lies](unrealistic yes but I can't find a way to make 100-rounds-a-minute mode, 200-rounds-a-minute mode, etc...)[/lies] without disrupting gameplay.

The Apache is on Kashan 32, and still is ;)

No offence, but fuel has been discussed numerous times before. It's great what you've done, a really original idea - but I doubt it'll ever be implemented even if you overcame the problems with setting a variable throttle rate etc.

Exactly, from the document it says 1.5 hours, and really by 30 mins you might loose your f16, or have to land to reload anyway.

Guys...what did I say about scalability...

When you make a 50km by 50km version of Muttrah with perfect detail and 20,000 playerspaces, you can talk about my idea being bad due to scale (this is not ArmA folks, so we can't have huge maps).

This is meant to deter loitering (which the A-10 and other CAS planes do so they'll have more fuel, but less power than fighters) and also makes it more challenging.

And though I can't vary the throttle (yet), it can be used in bursts (to control flight). I've heard somewhere python could do it but I don't know.

TF I really like what you've done here tho if it will ever be used, I'm not sure.

This article mentions that an f18s loiter time is only 30-45 minutes depending on payload.

Future CAS: 21st Century USAF Air Commandos & Navy SeaHogs

However the sucker for you is that if you believe wikipedia, the A10 has almost a 2 hour loiter time (if its base is close by) That, as people have said, is longer than the game lasts.

You also mention the scale issue. My answer to that would be that due to the short scale of the game, pilots see so much action that they are forced to land for rearming way before fuel becomes an issue anyway, so it is unnecessary.

(Again wikipedia sorry!)
On CAS mission: 250 nmi (288 mi, 460 km) at 1.88 hour single-engine loiter at 5,000 ft (1,500 m), 10 min combat
2 hours flight time for 10 minutes combat. In PR the combat is probably reached within 10 minutes of takeoff at most, with a resupply shortly after. With that in mind I'd say the smaller scle is replicated fairly faithfully without needing to force the pilot in for fuel.
However I'm not a dev so take what I say with a pinch of salt. Their views are no doubt different to mine.

Good job on the modding anyway tho. If PR can't use it, I expect there will be a bf2 mod that can.....
