i was thinking , instead of those "diamond"ish markers for the Brits/US why not a "ring" around the area the cache could be in?

agreed, a ring for the probably radius makes more sense

I say it should be an octagon.

I say you should just know that the cache could be anywhere within 150meters of that cache. Having a 300 meter wide circle isn't really necessary

Circle would be quite nice, if we ever got those special minimaps it sort or represents someone "drawing circle around the target area".

"what are you doing captain?"
"drawing a diamond to show the target area"

What's wrong with intuitiveness? It's one less thing for new people to be confused on and it accurately reflects the reality of the situation.
Another alternative is to just highly which sector it is in.
Example: A2 is highlighted meaning the cache could reside anywhere in A2. This would help a bit because the dots can sometimes give away the exact location. For example the one by the docks in Ramiel. If it shows up you know it's on the docks however if the sector is highlighted then it could be one of the other caches that show up in the sector.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
In .6, there was a red circle indicating the rough cache location, but it didn't encompass the entire area it could be in like this one would.

what if the cache is on the boundry between say...A2 and A3?

I don't think I found one that was actually on the boundary (the marker was but the cache itself wasn't) and in any case it could pick either of the two and you'd still find it.
