I'm using vista ultimate 64bit and I've set the compatibility for xpsp2 and set it to run as admin. That's fine I can get into it and tinker away, but it seems to like crashing when i place objects or save sometimes. I have no idea why it's doing this, has anyone els had problems with random crashing in vista?
Antoher question. I'm new to bf2 mapping. I used to do a bit of mapping with the goldsrc engine. But I can't import from terragen when doing surrounding terrain, it keeps saying "Ignored Warning[Physics] : TBM: file dont have the right size!, file size: 526338 : expected size: 591361 (769*769)"
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

the editor runs like a pig on vista, its bad enough on XP with crashes etc but vista its 20x worse, personally I would just install XP on anouther HDD / partiton if i was going to run vista and want to use the bf2 editor.
as for terrgen, look for tuts.

As Rhino says create an xp partition - I did it a few weeks ago, and despite it taking pretty much a whole day to reinstall everything it was well worth it. Heres a thread which will point you in the direction of some useful tuts :

(A streamlined install of xp will save you alot of time. It basically installs a fully updated version of xp including mediaplayer etc at the touch of a button - Im sure you can get one from somewhere

)
For your terragen problems, you are using the wrong sizes. For a 4km map it needs to be set up like this:
"Point spacing" is the scale of the map. The "landscape area" should equal your map size ( above shows 16 sq km as its 4km x 4km )
Terragen is very useful and Ive used it on my map to create the colourmap, detailmap, undergrowth and overgrowth. For the actual heightmap, I recommend using the free trial program Geocontrol. Its very easy to use (use the presets) and its also handy as a format converter as it can convert .terr files and also 16b heightmaps (cant remember right now, but in certain situations terragen only converts to 8b which makes your heightmap look like ****)
PM me if you like and Ill give you some tips on how to use terragen to its full potential
