Rural Push:

Game Mode: AAS
Player Size: 64
Teams: ADF vs Indonesia (China as placeholder)
Map Size: 4km

Updates

New lighting, mmore variation in terrain high (still needs a lot more work, but it's looking less flat with every build) further draw distance, less fog, thinner tree count (but pockets of thick growth to simulate scrub more accurately within the engine), started working on the town with help from tonnie so we're getting there.

You have left a lot of critical information out so I dunno how much I can help you without that but ehhh, first of all, always plan your maps with north being at the top, since that is going to be north ingame and its best to plan it the same way your minimap etc is going to look, epically keep the same north point if its based on a real location or links to anouther map.

So your plan should look a little more like this.

Image

Also note I have made the image a square image, 982x982 pixels, this is because your map will be square ingame, not including map borders you may put in but in PR we dont like them very much. As you can see, you have a lot of area with nothing planned in them, you should have a basic idea of what is going to be in each area, even if only in your head but if drawing up a plan, you should include it on it.

Now next bit, a very critical bit, who is going to be your op for? what kind of location is your map based in? for all I can tell from you minimap your map could be based on mars with a load of sci-fi buildings etc, apart from there are no known rivers on mars but still, its pretty damn critical.

Now is this place a real location? going by alot of the stuff I take it you have taken this map off a road map image or something and then planned ontop if it since the river, roads etc are very well drawn and accurate where the rest isnt. is this map based on some kind of real event or just a made up even in a real place (ie, like muttrah).

if its a made up event on a real or non real place, I would have the attacks assaulting from the south, pushing north into the town, with the defenders holding most of the points down the road and the town itself. Having both start at there main base without any real balance reason why is a little odd. For muttrah the main reason why the MEC start at the main (And the con site) is cos the USMC need time to get some kind of foot hold, otherwise they are screwed. in the case of your map, both team's already have a good foot hold, so if there is such a thing as a defender side, then you really need them holding a lot of flags, then you have the attackers needing to assault right up into the town. A head on head for the most point is kinda odd, will be quite a bit like EJOD otherwise with the town being in the top instead of the middle?

Also what is the size of this map, 1024x2 (2km x 2km)?

What are the main types of combat you hope to get out of this map, tank combat?

and the race track flag seems pretty odd to me? Wouldn't a small village or something be more suitable?

these are some areas you need to think about.

Also, how many pratice maps have you done so far? need to do a few and a bunch of tuts before you consider doing a full map.

Those blank areas are paddocks, you can see the fence borders as those thin grey lines.

Well thats actually a good idea, I could put in a small farm community as a CP in the center of the map down and the airfield between it and the outskirts of town, there are a few around. Yes it is based on a real location, but I want to make it just a large town on a main highway that leades to a Major city on the north coast. Which is why I had the problem with the compass direction but that can be sorted out. The Op For would be the regular Indonesian army. The map size would be 1024x2 but I'd have to play around with that. I've mad a few smaller scale maps and this is a step up for me. But this is still in the layout stages I just wanted some casual feed back about the local it's self. Thanks for the input though

You got any images of the terrain? Is it got some nice vallys or is it open flat plains with a clear line of view? I would also suggest if this not a large map then consider moving the ADF House spawn onto the other side of the road oppisit the racecorse or your going to get a whole lot of deths in the first 10 minits with everyone rushing eachother. Other than that it looks good and I wish you luck in the devolopment stage

I would personally scrap this map idea if I was you cos its more of a complete faction mod than just a map, and without even one map under your belt this is not something any mapper would really consider doing on his own. If this faction was already in the making and quite well though its development then fine but afaik, its not and if it is then why have i not heard about it yet?

I had a quick scan though of what vehicles they had, and very few of them are in PR, only like the F-16 is the only thing that's directly in PR and would be easy to use, couldn't find anything on hand weapons but still, its out of the question.

If you really wanted this same map location, I would use china as a place holder, thou I would find anouther map location personally that wasn't in Indonesia.

Why is the hospital a CP?

Those poor doctors and nurses....

You might not have understood where I was going with the map. I was talking rural Australia, and Indonesia is right off our coastline.

This is what I meant (the black outline around the combat zone is the fenceline for the paddocks)

But you do have a good point. I think someone actually has some Indonesian regular player models worked out but I may just use China as a place holder after all. Thanks for the input

The ADF doesn't have F-16 aircraft, we only have F/A-18 and F-111(soon to be replaced with F-18F).

Yeah we consist of win and other such things.

I like the idea WarPig.. But I think hte OpFOr having an uncap is a bit . .touchy it would be much better if it weren't . .

Love the idea though

Rhino, we'll (me, Ancient, ned and the ADF mappers) handle the OPFOR as we're currently having discussions with respect to 'story', opfor equipment distribution and consolidation of assets. On top of that we do have opfor assets such as reskinned technicals, bikes, uniforms and soldiers.

Warpig: I do like the way you're going with this, personally I'm all for a homeland invasion ;)

If you read my post I was talking about the Indonesian Army.... The Aussies would not be a official community mod if I didn't think it was feasible.

dose your opfor include the Indonesian Army? if so, can you make up a design plan for them? It looks like a huge amount of work to me...

Warpig , i can't really comment on anything substantial but i will say i like how you are planning!!!.. rather than presumptuous and knocking together any old map.

Will keep my eyes peeled for your work

I used to live in a rural town in NSW. Now living in the city.

But would be awesome to be "fighting" in a rural area.

Any updates mate?

So next to the ADF you guys also want to make the TNI (Tentara National Indonesia)?

The OPFOR is still a bit undecided but Chuc has reskined the PLA as the Indo Army and the insurgents for Asian based insurgents.

Glimmerman: We're likely to use the Chinese as placeholders. Making the TNI Angkutan darat would be too much a strain on our (mainly my..) resources :P

Sounds interesting but the Indonesian Army is not what you could call insurgents anymore, back in the 50's when it was under Dutch control the TNI was purely insurgency but nowadays they have a high tech army, they ordered 4 of these from the Netherlands: :)
