30s warm up on helicopter armament

Tanks have it, APCs and Anti-air does, even the stationary ones, but why don't the attack choppers?
For one they have weapons powerful enough to deserve a delay instead of just hopping in and firing off all Hellfires and Hydras.

It would make them sort of equal to other assets which have a use delay and would certainly fix the issue with people parking a helicopter on a hill and immediately switch to the gunner and start killing everything on the Training mode

i thought the main reason MBT's and APC's had the warm-up time on their turrets was to prevent soloing - soloing is pretty much impossible in chopper.

i guess you could, like, land an attack chopper somewhere and use the gunner position, that really seems like more trouble than it's worth, and probably you would die to enemy fire trying to make that maneuver.

personally i think the wait on stationary assets kinda blows. i mean, maybe put a 5 second warm up time, but really, especially on the .50 cals on turrets and emplacements what is there to warm up but to grab the thing and start firing?

That's the real issue, you should be able to fire from a fixed .50 in 3 seconds MAX.

I agree with outlawz, on training mode people do do the vBF2 tactic of park and shoot.

training is indeed a lol-fest atm, but training mode is a WIP I guess; servers restricting player slots etc would help alla the iGi community server.

This would be a small step in making the training mod more about training and less about playing PR with spamzors and tiny spawntimes.

soloing is pretty much impossible in chopper.
No it isn't, people still do it, I've seen an attack chopper being solo'ed in a public game a lot of times, people would just randomly grab it when it spawned and went flying around trying to strafe enemies with Hydras and got shot down, I even had a WZ10 on Qinling in 0.75 trying to destroy me in a Linebacker by flying low and firing Hydras at me.

Of course it isn't effective, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

If anything, the weapon usage delay could at least be there to simulate the fact that in RL pilots don't just jump in and start firing their weapons.

And I like the 4 second delay on .50s tbh, I know that sometimes you can be really devastating parking a jeep somewhere and hop onto the mg and rip apart everything, but people that drive around alone in a jeep and immediately switch seats when they see an enemy really piss me off.

It prevents one guy jumping in the chopter, taking off and using both seats for full effect ;)

sadly, its wont help... there allready 30 seconds of takeoff, so its dont going change anything about solo the chopper, as till the chopper takeoff its could fire, which is allrdy now almost always if no baserape...
and if they land and switch to gunner they are dead meat... and in training you got enough AA, tanks and inf kits to easly take them out before they do real damage...

So you get in the helicopter and you rotor warms up then your weapons warm up at the same time so by the time you start flying everything is warmed up? What's the point? You can't even get off the damn ground without waiting a while anyway.

Edit: I've just been double-ninja'd.

Well, the 30 secound warm up delay would not stop anyone from just taking off and using hydras, or am i missing something?

The warm up before you can take off is 30 seconds anyway, and another 30 seconds wouldnt really stop anyone from waiting a bit and then hydra-rush the enemy alone?

Other than stopping (well, delaying) people from landing and switching seats, that wouldnt do much?

Again, maybe i miss the point, but that landing thing doesnt sound like a good tactic anyways...

Yeah but, most of the time, they are 2 crewed every one wan to be you're gunner when you got it and people got kicked realy quick for soloing attack helicopter.

Any experienced vanilla and/or P.R. player known they are inneffective alone so that also help a little bit... infact IMO only Smacktard do this intentionaly to waste this precious asset. A Good crewed A.H. is devastating.

i've probably flown choppers more in PR then all the people in this thread combine and i can tell you it just doesn't happen in normal public games that people park the choppers on hills and start firing from the gunners seat. What does happen though is soloing using hydras but putting warm-up time on them would be utterly pointless since it takes 30 sec to even get of the ground. Putting warm-up time on the gunners seat would be equally pointless since the nature of PR doesn't allow for single-choppering like in the training mode.

to sum it up i do not feel this suggestion is necessary nor will bring anything to PR.

I myself think its pointless like markonymous because even if they try to aim at anything they cant, or at least if they try most likely they will tip over and die...which we dont want. I dont even see why someone would fire hydras or AA on the helipad (or where the heli landed anyway) just wastes ammo, or if they are firing at an enemy, it would give their position away then their a bit screwed because their still in warmup...

Timers, timers everywhere...

Give it a break. A warm-up time on gunner weapons is absolutely superfluous, and all of you know it.

I honestly do not see why not. It takes thirty seconds for a chopper to warm up anyways. A gunner really doesn't have a reason to jump out.

It wouldn't solve anything either, save for the problem of smacktards hopping in and TKing at base. It would give time to kick them from the squad so they die in the asset.

One honest problem is if someone wants to swap positions or if the gunner disconnects, but really, what is 30 seconds if you are in an asset? I wouldn't leave if there were tanks in serious trouble or something, I would take care of it first, then leave.
