People, people! Aren't you sick and tired of cheaters? You probably are, just like me.
But to be honest, the programs designed to stop cheaters are starting to irritate me more than the chaeters themselves. Just like in real life that ban on alcohol doesn't seem so bad compared to a camera up your arse on every corner and your phone conversations taped.


I didn't have much problems with these programs until when I formated my comp most recently and re-installed BF2 after 1 year. Since then I've been having troubles with PB. According to PB's own homepage it is because their service is indeed a spyware and my computer isn't allowing it to run.
I'm so sick of being monitored where ever and what ever I do and I'm even more sick of having to addapt my computer each time one of these stupid programs comes out or changes.

I've tried to fix my problem with some simpler solutions and I know there is a massive guide somewhere here to fix it but I would like to propose something ellse instead. A server free of Punkbuster.

Punkbuster drains CPU, laggs your computer and sometimes randomly performs checks that take even more CPU (very rarely tho, thus the rare lagg spikes).
It is also a spyware, a spyware we seem to accept for some reason.

This is a small community for a modification of a game that barely has any cheats out for it anyway. I belive that there is no reason to not have a PB-free server to rid ourselves of the constant problems brought by Punkbuster.
I belive it wouldn't attract cheaters and I belive that they would be swiftly banned by admins and their IP's and accounts gone for ever just as quickly as they came.


So could someone please, please, please make a PB-Free Server so I don't have to deal with the handshaking problem and so that you all don't have to deal with it and the CPU usage in the future. Each and every time you re-install this game.

Double wrong.

1. There are plenty of ways for people to cheat. Not only do all BF2 cheats apply, but so do new cheats that relate to PRs custom shaders (IE suppression, bleed effects), and fog.

2. There are ways to get back on a server after IP bans and key bans. I think we all know who has done this in the past.


And yeah, PB-free servers attract cheaters.

Its quite easy to set up a punk-buster free server. Rent a server, put a password on it, hide its online register and only allow your friends access and you will never have cheaters. But your foolish to think there are very little amount of cheat out there.

Maybe you don't see alot of them cause.....PB stops they before they get to you.

I have 0 problems with PB, I have had a few, but they are very rare.

Imagine so, that I am also running vista 64, is that not the notorious PB bad combo?

In any case, there has to be a way to solve PB problems if enough is done.

I have played BF2 and PR on 2 different computers (one laptop and one desktop) and on vista 64, vista 32 and XP 32. All of them have given me no problems with PB.

I am not saying that no one has problems, but it can´t just be that I am lucky, or that I have done more since I just do a standard install...

I agree with a no PB sever (it does screw off most players for doing nothing)
But then again it would turn out just like bf2 or Delta Force 2 if anyone has ever played that online Really all we can do is wait for punk buster to make another patch that messes up something else in the game.

1. lol... cheats for PR? Sure...Why would someone join a community of people who like a realistic game only to change it into being unrealistic?
And does PB even stop cheats concerning RP?

Also this is about adding one PB-Free server out of the 10 PB servers out there so us with the issues of either a buggy PB, not wanting extra drain on our CPU or simply not wanting spyware on our computer can go and play.

1) Aimbots don´t care about the mod....

2) You would be surprised...

I am not against it, just good luck getting it populated with "decent" players...

Well, a good community with a bunch of admins would solve the problem I think. Aimbots are so easy to notice.



2. Yes i'd be surprised. I really would. I'm not talking about IP banning or Key banning them from ALL bf2 servers. Just ours. And it would be our admins that would decide if anyone gets their IP/Key bann to enter our server which I hope they wouldn't.

but in pub play there is no alternative imo.

How can you say aimbots are easy to notice when there is no 1st person view? because they turn quick?
PB and lost connection is annoying, but like I did you just have to find the correct formula for you and your PC to get PR running. Annoying I know but you will get there.

personally my formula goes like this:

make sure PunkbustrA is running in task manager before running the game, if not...reboot.
shutdown stuff I don't need while playing PR. MSN, web browser, adaware, antivirus.
load PR from the PR shortcut.
Once loaded in, Alt-Tab and open task manager. Find BF2.exe and PR.exe and set affinity to 1 core.
Go to Deploy and load into another server 61% and Then escape/unload resources.
Finally join desired server.

that is what I do everytime I want a session of PR, pain in the arse I know but it keeps me connected. That is after trying other fixes that didn't work for me. If I stick to that routine in that order my game works.

Admins should ofcourse be able to see fp.

You clearly have Zero experiance in Adminning a server my friend Ban from GUID, IP, Cd Key, Hash, Hair colour and they'll be back

You're also asking the question "Why would they make a realistic game unrealistic" They're low life cheaters, what do you expect them to do? Play along Nicely?
Lastly news of a PB free PR server would spread like wildfire and you'll be lucky to have it running for more than 2 weeks, it'll be ampty all the time because of the Griefing and it will be crashing constantly for "No reason"

However believe what you wanna believe, throw £90 at a server for a month. see what happens

Considering that people do in fact cheat in PR at this very moment in PR with UAV hacks, aim-bots, et cetera, it would be difficult for you to claim that there wouldn't be any cheaters on a Punkbuster free server.

Bascially, my pre-posters (?) said it all. There IS cheating on PB protected servers, you WILL get cheaters on an unprotected server.
Any efforts you take to make your PC, PR and PB work together are nothing compared to the *beeep* grief you get from some *beep*ing *beeeep*hole cheating in your game.

This is a pointless/re-post thread..

Reasons why PB is good 1. I've seen a few times(IN PR) were it has banned people with aimbots(No names mentioned). 2. It used to kick me for MD5 errors in .7 Why does this not bother me? I'm not a cheater but at least it's working. Ok I had .5 suppression effect in .75 and I got kicked. I'll admit it was annoying and cheap to not be effected by bullets. But It worked.

Reasons why PB is bad It kicks a few non cheaters. Oh well. IMO if you want a PB free server Do as Codered said.
