[Help!] 3DS Max Background Guide Problem

I've been trying to get into 3D modelling and I've been looking at how to get a picture of a weapon in the background, however when I do this I don't get a large image to fill the plane, I just get allot of small versions of the picture.

What I get.

When I zoom in...

It has also made the image a square when it was around 5:3 ration.

I have changed the plane to the size of the image and I'm using 3DS Max 2009.I'm applying the image as a material and am not using any plug-ins to do so, just the standard 3Ds max Any ideas on how to get this picture to fill the plane so I can get some good 3D modelling done?

Thanks in advance.

First make a plane and add an UVW Map modifier on it. From the UVW map options (right side) select bitmap fit and navigate to the image you want on it. Then add a material to it, right click the plane and select object properties, tic freeze and untic 'show frozen in gray'.

I see you are going to do the glock tutorial. Good luck :)

Bitmap fit is greyed out for me, any ideas?

Yeah I am doing the Glock tutorial, looks like a good one for beginners. Can't wait to get it all working lol.

Neither methods work ice_killer, remember that this is 3DS Max 2009 and not 8. The video results in the same small pictures and the other link is for an older version and 2009 doesn't hae them things any more.

I can get it as a background for the view port but that's no use.
