Iron Sight

First I want to say I really enjoy Project Reality, and want to thank you guys for putting out a great product. I like that you guys added the 3d iron sights, I think that brings realism to the aiming and shooting. My suggestion is to take the realism one step further. When a person closes his eye to aim down the sights his perspective changes, and when they focus on the target everything else goes out of focus. I took a few screenshots from in game with the 3d iron sights up, I then edited the pictures in Photoshop. I blacked out all but an eclipse shape over the gun to represent the left eye closed, and right eye open, I left a thin transparent halo to blend it. Then I added blur to everything outside the target area. Here are my results:

Notice how the target and general area in the same distance is in focus, and how the gun is close to the upper left hand side of the eclipse, just as if you were aiming a real gun it would be to your upper left hand side of view. I also think that this black mass should not just appear like the old 2d/3d sights use to, I think it needs to be faded and moved in slowly as the sights line up really try to match how it looks when you close your left eye.

I recently played Brothers in Arms Hells Highway and they have a nice blur unfocused effect you guys should check out. In the future I want to make an animation or clip of the black mass fading and moving in then focusing on target, as the sights come up. Ill post that when I get around to it. Thanks for looking and reading my suggestion.

I dont like it at all, to be honest. This came up in another thread a few days ago and Ill try to explain it again the way I see it. One reason being that in PR, or BF2 in general, you only have two stances with a rifle: sighted in, or not. Whereas in real life you can, and honestly would, always have the sights up near your face, looking down the sights, and when not having your eyes down the sights, the rifle would still be raised to your cheek.

In PR you cant have a distinction between looking down the sights or just having the gun up and ready. Therefore, I think its be really bad to include such an effect. I dont even want the blur effect that FH2 has.

In PR, a game, you as the player decide when you focus down the sights and when you do not. You can have the sights up and still look around the area in front of you and around the sights. When you stop looking around and look at the irons, you focus on your own and the vision blur is created without a needed effect.

Welcome to the forums :)

I think just looking at the screen is a good enough simulation of using ironsights.

Just like IRL, if you have ironsights up, you are not forced to look right down them, but around for potential targets.

And your vision naturally focues as such. You dont need a blur or obstruction. You will pay more attention to where your looking and less the where your not looking.

I agree, I have always wanted to see a game that gives you the third aiming option. The option to point shoot, where you cheek is already on the stock and your just looking down the barrel point shooting. I read some one suggest half zoom in another thread, could you guys do half zoom to a point shoot stance then full zoom to the irons, or can we raise up the gun in normal view model to make it more aiming down the barrel or point shoot? I dont know about you guys but some times when I try to aim off the barrel in the normal view I shoot low, like the barrel of the gun is not pointing to where the rounds hit. I think the point shoot would help CQC greatly.

Resistance and Liberation offers you that kind of flexibility, and imo does represent the pinnacle of 1st person shooter simulation..

it looks really interesting!

But you'll probibly agree that when you actually look at the screen you can only focus on one portion of the monitor, usually being the center, but with the added flexability of checking out everything else around the center as well. I think the idea of having crouch with 3d irons and move being impimented into the game is to stop people sprinting into the the action and getting annihilated. We wouldnt want to blind everybody as well, would we?

i think the 3d irons are good as is. another shader effect ontop of the oodles of other deliberate handicaps isnt going to enhance gameplay. Its a cool consept in it's own way...but there are other ways of going about it in my opinion.
