Yea, music doesnt fit in that kind of game at all imo. Just makes you need to turn the sound louder so you can hear footsteps/distant fire/vehicles/voip etc. Music is important for strategy and some role playing games and everything that isnt very "serious" or "realistic" but rather artistic.

I listen too much. Footsteps, birds, vehicle noises, echos of gunfire, echos of an SL placing an attack marker, echos of someone asking for a medic and a hundred other sounds. Listening hard can mean the difference between getting ambushed, and being the ambusher.

Uh, I never listen any music... there are just too many sounds for you to listen to, not mentioning the VOIP communication.

Im not actually quite sure do i get more kills because i hear enemies, or because i see them. But listening to enemy is very very important for me.
Also huge thing that makes ppls play better is 5.1 sound system on headset, if you use stereo system you dont hear sounds from behind, and atleast in my country's stantard stores only has stereo headsets..

How can you hear the frontline when listening to your mp3's? Or an APC around the corner! I cant play with music. I would like to have a cd-changer in the all those extreme loud engined PR-vehicles though...So i dont have to listen to that weird rev system.

Occasionally I'll listen to DnB or Trance, mainly when piloting or tanking. When playing infantry I don't because audio is very important.

I often turn on the radio or play music in the background, and relieve my ears while... waiting, or whatever you should call all the deadtime in PR.
But never from my computer, i rely too much on my hearing.
